My son is almost 3 months old. he can hold his head up really well and he can stand/ hold his weight on his two feet with assistance. we really want to get him a walker to play around in? are they as safe for a 3-4 month old as an exersaucer? we really do not have room for both. what are your experiences?

I didn't answer the poll yet because we have an exersaucer but not a walker yet. We hope to get a walker soon though because I think moving around would get LO super excited. She does so well in the exersaucer though. I also can't tell you about the ages for the walker but our LO was in the exersaucer right around 3 months and could handle it really well.

We got a walker at 4 months but he just started using it more at 7 months. At 4 months he loved his jumperoo, we never got an exersaucer bc LO loves to jump!

In Canada walkers are illegal. Only exersaucers here.

I say exersaucer as I believe walkers are dangerous, particularly if you have any stairs or steps in your house.

I wanted to add that different exersaucers are different heights even when they say the same age. My MIL bought one for her house and hers is so much taller than ours. LO is on the highest setting in the one we have and on the lowest one at MIL's house, she can't touch the bottom (and we have a tall LO).

that's what i was wondering. we do not hqave stairs and only have a small 1 br apt. but naturally its very important to me that he will be safe.

We have a exersaucer and at 4 months DD loves it. A jumpero is a good option too. I like being able to put her in and have her play by herself while I cook.

we have both. he went in the exersaucer just before 4 months i believe and really liked it. he still uses at almost 7 months. we just started with the walker about 2 weeks ago and he really likes it. he is only able to scoot it around in the kitchen, as that's the only room without a rug. our rug in the living room is too thick and he can't move it.

We live in a 1 bdr apt too and have a w,aker which she uses a bit. She likes it but enjoys the jumperoo more at the moment.

I've watched lots of babies with walkers and they often times would run into a wall or cupboard and get stuck there or run over your toes. If you have lots of rugs or carpet, it's also hard for them to get around.

Exersaucer or jumperoo. My daughter LOVES her jumperoo.
There is a lot of research out that walkers are actually bad for the development of the muscles in their feet and legs. We were debating getting a walker or an activity table for our DD for Christmas and I saw a lot of stuff about it when I was researching.

I am in the minority but I LOVE our walker. LO goes nuts in it....she absolutely loves being mobile. She is at the point now where she can steer herself into any room of the house, and can easily follow me from room to room.
She doesn't care for the exersaucer too much anymore...she is okay for a few minutes until she realizes she isn't mobile.
We live in a rambler with hardwood floors so I don't feel the walker is dangerous at all.

@Rainbow Sprinkles: my LO can only go backwards in his walker lol. then he gets mad when he's cornered and can't figure out how to get going again!

I just remembered the story my dad told me the other day. I apparently loved my walker. He said one day I was in my walker in the kitchen with my parents when I took off down the hall. There was apparently a step down into the living room. I turned into the living room and fell over. Apparently I started giggling and tried to do it every time I was put in the walker again so they put up a gate. He said I started walking about a week later.

@MrsMccarthy: it is made by safety first and she is 6 months old. She has been walking in it since 4.5 months though.
They are selling one similar to ours target right now. $35!! -
@caffeinated: good question! No, that is considered a push-toy and they are good to go! It's the ones that the baby 'sits' in, and allows non-walking babies to walk.
