Mine was. He went to community college, then finished up in a university. I was immersed in university life while he just 'visited' campus for classes. We are both big proponents of having the expectation that our daughter goes to college even though we didn't grow up like that.

Yes. His parents were supportive and helped him some financially but I'm still amazed he was able to do it. He grew up in a very rural area where very few people leave and go to college and did not have a lot of positive influences when it comes to education.

I don't know if his older brother graduated? But he is def the 1st to get a master's.

no, my FIL has a degree and was a teacher in his country. And my SIL graduated from undergrad and grad school before my husband did the same-- she's 3 years older.

No; both his mother and father have advanced degrees too (phd and jd), but his mom was the first in her family to go to college (and ended up with a BA, MA and JD).

No. His Dad was a lawyer and I'm not sure about his uncle/aunt or grandfather. His mom went to nursing school.

Confirmed he was the first to go in his immediate family and still just one of a few among his cousin-peer group to go. He was raised with the expectation he would go to college, but his parents (MIL/ SFIL) did not help him financially. He did not take out loans. Earned scholarships and worked two jobs the entire time to come out debt-free. He is the bigger proponent of us making college & grad school free for our children.

Yes, he was the first to get undergraduate and graduate degrees. His parents were very supportive and all 8 of his siblings have now got degrees and 2 have PhDs.

Nope - I believe his grandparents were the first to go to college. His parents didn't have any real expectations for college (they were hippies) so it was his grandfather that took him to tour colleges, etc when the time came
