Was your 2nd delivery similar to your 1st?

I was way more open with my first delivery, had no preference for vaginal vs Csection, etc, and actually requested an induction after 39 weeks to make sure my husband could be there....I was just a green FTM without a real clue. I have a much better understanding of how lucky I was for LO1's birth, and I'm actually nervous that #2 won't go so well.

I won't induce this time, simply to avoid Pit if it isn't necessary. DD's heart rate dropped terrifyingly so until they turned the Pit off, and then we were fine, but I don't care to take that chance again unnecessarily. And now that a vaginal delivery is the only way I know, and it was pretty easy and recovery was easy, I am also kind of scared of a csection.

I didn't have delivery fears with my first. But I do with this one.

Was your 2nd delivery similar to or different from your first?

My 2nd is due next week and I know what you mean about having more fears this time! I would prefer not to be induced again because being stuck in bed SUCKS...plus I had to lay on my side for almost the entire time and have oxygen in between pushes, not fun. Very interested to read responses!

Yes, it just went faster (half the time), and I was 7 cm dilated already by the time I got to the hospital (and I didn't even try to labor at home as long as possible like I did the first time)!

Yes in most senses. Water broke first and had DS in about 3 hours, contractions first and then water broke and had DD in about 45 minutes.

I'm a bit nervous about this too. And much like you I am hoping to avoid another induction but of course I am open to anything that is necessary to get my baby here in a way that is optimal to the baby's and my own health. C sections are not something I take lightly but I also know a lot of people who have had extremely easy recoveries. That gives me hope that I can have a good experience no matter how she comes out.

@tororojo: So true about being stuck in bed! They started my induction on Sunday night (cervadil) and I didn't have LO until Tuesday morning at 6am. FOR. EV. ER! I wish you the BEST of luck that you have an absolutely beautiful delivery next week(ish)

@MrsMccarthy: I feel exactly the same way about the csection...I know so many, my own mom included, who tell me that their sections were no big deal. So as long as baby is healthy, you are right, how he/she gets here is small potatoes! This time, we have a little more flexibility with DH's work schedule, and he can just make arrangements and we'll work it out, so baby can come whenever he/she wants, and I'm hoping all will be okay:)

I've also always had the little fantasy that I'm sure everyone has at some point, about knowing it's the time, or water breaking, or whatever the case is - and getting to wake my husband up or call him or turn to him, and say "It's time! The baby's coming!" Getting to experience that "Here we go!" rush with him:) Since I was induced, we missed out on that, which is fine, but that is a positive already about LO2's birth is that hopefully it will start that way. Hopefully:)

@PrincessBaby: I really want that type of spontaneous birth experience too! Grabbing the bags and going no matter what time of day. Ive heard indiction contractions are worse than natural (though i will definitley not shy away from another epidural if it becomes unbearable either way). I also love the idea of baby deciding their own birthday. FX we both get to experience that this time along with healthy easy births. I went overdue though and that part is a bit hard. I keep thinking it will be easier to go overdue this time because I'm used to it and it will be my last days to give all of my mothering attention to my son but realistically I'll probably be an evil witch like I was last time. I just hope baby isn't premature because that scares me. Praying for no NICU!!

totally different. ended up with a c-section with charlie and a vbac with olive when she came 5 weeks early (and she was a planned c-section!). you never know what's going to happen!

They started the same, my water broke both times with no contractions. With my first LO, contractions started on their own about 2 hours later. With LO2, the midwife gave me an enema after about 4-5 hours of no contractions and that jump started them. With both, I went from no contractions to very fast and painful ones. With LO1, I had time for an epi, with LO2, I didn't. LO1 was about 9 hours from the start of contractions to birth. LO2 was just 45min from start of contractions to birth!

Similar but not identical. With DD1, super mild, very spaced out contractions started the day before my due date and gradually built up through the night. I woke DH at 4:00 am, said it's time and the rest just went on from there. Super easy delivery with a brilliant epidural, no complications, and an easy recovery. Labour was about 19 hours from the time contractions got painful to when DD was born.

DD2, the super mild, spaced out contractions started on my due date night but a little more intense than how they started with DD1. DH left for work at 2:00 am, after checking to make sure I didn't want him to stay home, and sure enough, 30 minutes later, my water broke and the contractions were full on so DH had to turn right around and come home. Once again, no complications but the epi didn't work as well so labour was a bit tougher. DD2 was born 6 hours after my water broke and recovery was even easier the second time around.

@lamariniere: I am pretty in awe of how genius the human body is in general, but especially in pregnancy and birthing...It's like it gets more efficient for a lot of people- it just steps up and does it's thing and stories like yours definitely reassure me that, while I can't control everything, my body did a fantastic job once before, and I should have confidence that it will be a powerhouse again I hope that my body is not SO efficient that I don't even time for an epidural, though lol:)

@Ree723: That is another one of my fears - the epidural not being as fantastic as it was for LO1! From the time I got the epi until the time I pushed, I felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. I slept most of the time I was in labor because my body was working so hard but I couldn't feel it, so I very comfortably slept while my parents and husband sat around in uncomfortable chairs and sofas and tried to get a snooze in here and there. That is good to know that your recovery was even easier the 2nd time!
