My dad wasn't allowed in the operating room because my mom was put under during her C-sections.

LOL at first I thought you meant was he in there when I gave birth and I was about to say helllll no! My mom had a c-section with me and a VBAC with my brother. He was there both times.

Yes, although he must have been pretty engrossed in watching the Cubs game because whenever we talk about my mom's birth stories he always talks about the Cubs losing in the final game of the National League Championship that night. Also, he swears her labor with my little sister only lasted as long as final Jeopardy.

Yeah. But my Mom was pissed at him and my grandma because they left her to go out to eat and drink while she was in labor.

I was born at home, so yes, he was for sure there. For all 3 of his girls.

No! He came by earlier in the day while I was having contractions but once the show started he went to the waiting room with everyone else. It was just dh and I when she was born and that's how I wanted it
ETA: after rereading I think I interpreted the question wrong! Yes my dad was there for MY birth. Haha

@lawbee11: bahaha I thought the same thing.
Honestly I'm not sure if he was or not.

@Lawbee11: I was thinking the same thing!! I was like, uh.... no. haha.
But yes, my dad was there for both of our births.

Yes, he was. My grandmother loves to tell the story about how he came into the waiting room and announced "it's a girl!" She says he was glowing.

Nope, I was 3 weeks early and he works out of state during the summer. He met me in the airport at 3 days old

No. He was watching a basketball game at a bar. He wasn't exactly the best parent or partner in the world...

Heyyyyyll to the M-F'n no.
ETA: oooooh, you meant when I was born, not when I gave birth? Haha. No, but he was pacing the hallway and the door was open so he could peek in. It was overseas (middle east) and it was 25 years ago, so no, it was not common to be even as close as he was.

Nope. My dad wasn't even in the state when I was born!

@Leialou: That is so sweet... That is how I imagine things going down when I get birth (hopefully one day) and one of the main reasons I would want to be team green.

Yep, he still has the scar to show for it! Seriously. My mom bit him.

My dad was yes.
And to those to misinterpreted the original question, I have to say that I still find it really strange that my FIL was in the delivery room when my SIL gave birth. As they tell the story, he was there while she was in labor and things progressed really fast. I don't know, I think I would have found a way to slip out.

Yes, for all 3 of us. My mom was very understanding when I told her I only wanted DH in the room with me when I had my kids, and she said that's all she wanted in the room when she had us kids. I do know that for my brother, my dad was out doing deliveries(he delivered auto parts) and they were having trouble getting in touch with him to let him know my mom was in labor. Ahh the days before cell phones

Nope. My mom loves to remind him that he went to get a hamburger while she pushed me out!

No. My mum didn't want to call him when she went into labour (she was already in hospital) because it was raining and he had holes in his shoes (they were very poor).

@lawbee11: Lol. Same. My reaction was actually "ewwwww no!!!"
Yes, he was in the delivery room for mine and my sister's birth.
blogger / honeydew / 7081 posts
Nope, because my mom had an emergency C-section. I don't think he actually got to hold me or really see me for at least a week.
kiwi / 550 posts
Yes, my mom had 2 c sections and he was there for both.
I hope he's there when my wife and I give birth. He doesn't have to be in the room the whole time but honestly he's more likely to handle being there better than my mother. He was an EMT and a police officer, he's seen some shit and he's helpful and pretty chill. It doesn't gross me out. But maybe I'll kick everyone out when I'm in labor... who knows.

No he wasn't because he was deployed overseas. He met me when I was 6 months old.
My dad was there for the birth of my oldest son though. He didn't watch him actually comes out or anything like that. He was way above my head in the corner by the window. Anyways I was happy that he got to be there for the birth of his first grandchild since he missed mine, and I'm his only child.
