LO is just over 2.5 and we haven't potty trained her yet. I'm curious if most kids are potty trained before this age, around it, or after. I'm not ready to jump in yet but want her trained before she's 3.

Nope. B is 2.75 and we basically just occasionally ask him if he wants to use the potty.

DH actually potty trained DD at 22 months (he's a teacher and it was a goal before he went back to work), but she's not night trained and usually still wears a pull up for nap.
I think anywhere from 2-3 is pretty normal with some outliers earlier/later.

Yeah, we trained at 25 months (she wouldn't keep a diaper on so we didn't really have a choice).
pineapple / 12053 posts
trained around 2, still having pee accidents every other day (not poop thank God!) until 2y9m.

We day trained at 25 months bc I was home on maternity leave and she was super interested in the potty. I hadn't planned on starting that early but didn't want to miss her moment. She just recently stopped wearing pull-ups for sleep at almost 3.

We trained at exactly 2.5. She was the only one not in diapers in her class for a long time.
pomegranate / 3438 posts
Not even close at that age. DS was 3.5 when he was pee trained. It took about another 6 weeks before he would poop in the toilet consistently. And we are still in pull ups at night (he is 4.5 now).

Lo is 2.5 now. She will use the potty when she wants to-- sometimes she'll ask or sometimes we initiate. And she's been doing that at least 6 months-- maybe longer? Started when some of her daycare friends who are a year older were potty training. We haven't pushed it (yet), it's all on her terms. Especially poop, she prefers to go in her diaper she knows when she's pooping or peeing and will talk about it. I'd like to get her out of diapers by the time lo2 arrives in February; we have a long weekend over Election Day coming up, maybe we'll focus on it then!

We PT at 24 months. In my circle 2.5 is pretty common but several friends waited until 3 as well.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
We potty trained at 2.5, but he'll be 3 next month and he's going through a phase where he's refusing to poop. He's 100% pee trained though.

I have tried several times since DD was 2 and she just turned 3... She is maybe half trained I would say. We don't use diapers at home, but she isn't sogood about letting me know when she has to pee if we are out (and I try to offer the potty every 30 minutes to hour). She also will not poop in the potty.

Yeah he was fully trained by 2.5. He was an easy kid to potty train though.
pomegranate / 3113 posts
She has been day trained since 2y8m but still prefers a diaper for poop and we haven't tackled night training yet.

@Bao: dd potty trained at 2y9m within a few weeks. One day it just clicked. Then didn't stop peeling overnight until just recently after just turning four!!
pear / 1547 posts
Yep, not on purpose though - LO took the lead! She was trained before her 2nd birthday. Probably a few weeks before. She's the only kid in her class not in diapers. Still wears a pull up for sleep though at home for naps she's dry 80%of the time.
grapefruit / 4584 posts
DD2 will be 2.5 next month and is potty trained. She's one of the only ones in her class of 15 (mainly girls) who is, though. She is dry at naps, and pretty dry when she wakes up in the AM.
DD1 was potty trained at more like 2.75 after a failed attempt closer to 2.5....and she wasn't "well" potty trained even at that age. Even after I considered her "potty trained", she would go through periods (I think growth spurts) where she'd have lots of tiny pee accidents. She's past 4 and while she never has accidents if she naps, she's nowhere near ready to be dry at night. Her body just doesn't do it.
I did nothing differently with them in terms of potty training. They're all different!

LO1 was potty trained at 27 months, and LO2 was potty trained at 32 months. I held off on training LO2 because he is super stubborn, and I feared for the worse. It wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined, and he is fully trained for day and night. That kid is full of surprises.

Not a chance.
I wouldn't even bother trying to potty train again if I had to do it over.

She was day trained by 2.5 but didn't stop wearing overnight pull-ups until closer to 3.

DD day trained at 27 months but still wears a diaper at night (and I think she will for a good amount of time). She's three.
pomelo / 5326 posts
We started around 24 months but were pretty lax for the first few months. When she was 28 months we spent extra time over the Christmas holidays working on it and she was fully day trained then. She is 38 months now and doesn't have any day accidents and wears pull ups for naps and night.

Nope. DD is 2.75 and has been telling us she needs to pee/poop and successfully doing it in the potty at random times since she was 18 months. I feel like she would catch on quickly if we forced it, but I'm in no rush to force it. I'd like it to be as easy and seemless a transition as possible. She has undies and has asked to wear them 3x. Once I start telling her it's time to use the potty (I did 30 min intervals) she gets annoyed and asks for a diaper. So be it, she won't be in diapers forever and right now with a 4 month old, it's convenient when we are out and about! Most kids her age we know aren't PT yet and the ones that are seem to have lots of accidents and regressions and are only day trained.
nectarine / 2591 posts
Nope, she was trained around 3. We followed her lead and that's when she was ready. Am glad we waited because we've had no regressions.

My son got the hang of it about 2 weeks ago. He's 2 years 10 months. I thought it would never happen with the way he was acting about it
nectarine / 2973 posts
Nope. We just got her potty trained during the day last month at 3.5. I was in no hurry.
nectarine / 2466 posts
not long after 2.5 she was for daytime. She's 3y3m and still needs to wear a diaper at night. I'm not sure how to go about night training so just kind of leaving it as is..
pineapple / 12566 posts
We trained DS right at 2.5. He was night trained within 2 months of training. We trained DD around 27 months but at nearly 3, she still needs a diaper at night.
kiwi / 643 posts
No, but I wasn't really in a rush. I waited until a couple months before he turned 3, and he was fully day trained in 1 day. He started preschool this fall so I wanted him trained by summer.
pomegranate / 3601 posts
We didn't train DS but he decided himself at 2.5 that he was done with diapers. He also didn't need a diaper at night at that point.
I really hope it'll be just as smooth with DD (she's 21m).

Right at 2.5 with Charlie. Olive we didn't try until she turned 3 since we were traveling for a long time, and it was much harder for her than it was for Charlie.
coconut / 8472 posts
Yes, he was pretty much potty trained by 2.5. We started at 2.25 because he was showing signs of readiness. It was a slow process, but mostly because we got lazy and daycare required pull ups.
