A number of years ago, my sister set up a Google website for our family to use for Christmas wishlist ideas. The website was clunky and hard to use at times but I liked that I could sign up for alerts whenever anything was updated. I need something better/easier to use. Amazon wish lists won't work because I want my parents to easily be able to add non-Amazon items on there (like slippers in general, not a specific pair, for example). Is there a website or way of doing this? I think a shared Dropbox document would be too difficult too. Any ideas?

I thought you could add non-amazon things. Or you an add notes, so pick out a pair but then note, any brand would do.
What about just a shared Google Doc?

You can add generic items to Amazon wishlists. Just go to you wishlist and there is a box at the top that has a camera and it says "Save an idea. Shop for it later."

You could also make a shared Pinterest board.

We use DrawNames.com for our family's Secret Santa. I know you don't need it for a gift exchange, but there is a section for gift ideas and you can look at everyone's list, no matter who's name is assigned to you. It is a super simple website, but you have to use it in a specific order.
- Create a list
- Invite people to your group
- Everyone has to accept
- Then you can look at everyone's wish list - if they made one. And you can ask questions anonymously too. -
We use a shared Pinterest board in our family and then just check with the others members before you buy a gift for someone to make sure they haven't already!

We do a shared google spread sheet. Super low tech and easy. We also use Amazon wishlists.

3rd to the pinterest board. Each of my family members pins ideas for things they want. Love it. I add to/edit mine all year long since it's so hard to come up with ideas last minute!

I know this is a year old, but I had been looking for something easier, too, and came across http://www.giftyou.com
Seems way easier to use than a lot of the other wish list sites, and it's pretty fun seeing the items you add appear in the list. Maybe I just like shopping!
