T hates it! Lol. It figures.
He's only 3 months so we still have to use the infant insert. I put him in it 2 different ways (holding him and insert and pulling ergo up and putting insert in and loosening ergo and DH sliding him in) but he hated both! I'm pretty sure he's still too small to be completely comfortable. I felt pretty confident I had him positioned correctly. To me it felt comfortable but I guess he's not a fan. I do love it but I hope he grows to like it too.
Any experience?

C hated it until she got older and bigger too. She's 2 and still likes to ride around in it though!

Yeah, D hated the carrier (we have a Beco Gemini) until he was about 4 months. He never really liked being all "smushed" up in there. He liked it much better when he could kind of see out and look around. I kept trying, but it really wasn't until he was 4 months or so that he actually would stay in there calmly.

DD wasn't a fan of our carrier (Tula) until around 5 months but she mostly likes it now. Once she was big enough to ditch the back part of the insert and just sit on the pillow, she started to tolerate the carrier a lot better.

Make your early babywearing experiences short and positive. Only keep him in as long as he will tolerate. Pat his bum while he's in the Ergo...it usually helps. Good luck..it will come with time

I wear DD in the Ergo daily...instead of insert I use a rolled up Aden and Anais blanket at the bottom. Maybe try that?

Ditto to the rolled up blanket instead of the insert, it really helps. Also, try when he is already in a good mood and then go outside or just walk/bounce a lot. I find that getting that helps a lot with getting them settled and to enjoy the experience.

My LO hated it when she was small too. We did better with a sling. She liked the ergo better when she was bigger and could ride on the back. She's two and she still rides in it! It's currently our favourite carrier.

Totally hated it until he could sit up with his arms out and over (8 months maybe?)
Around 5 months I used the Baby Bjorn for short trips to Target and he loooooved it, loved looking out.

Did you go on a walk? Mine freaked everytime she went in, but calmed down when walking. Also, does LO have good head control? If so, you can totally try without the insert. Just have one leg sticking out and the other leg frogied inside.

I was never able to make the ergo work when LO was very little. Once she got to maybe 5 or 6 months she loved it and will still happily be in it at 16 months. Don't give up!

Try taking the little cushion out of the insert and just use that to prop his body up and also to position legs correctly. He might not like the actual insert body because its too warm or constructing. You can also use rolled up towels to boost the body up too!
DD also hated the Ergo as an infant but I wore her a ton once she hit 6 months until she was around 18 months.

L never took to the Ergo, unfortunately. I kept hoping he would grow to like it as he got older, but it never happened. I ended up finding a local babywearing group through FB, and they had a lending library where you could try our different carriers for free. After many many tries I finally discovered that L likes the Pikkolo, which does not require an infant insert and cinches in the leg area to make it more comfortable for him. He also liked the ring sling, but I didn't.

LO hated the insert every time I tried it when he was younger. I returned it. I think he overheated in it. I'm actually thinking about trying it with the rolled up blanket tomorrow. He's 11 weeks but has good head control and does the "hug" hold in the baby k'tan we have. He always fusses when I put him in the k'tan awake but if I bounce a bit he calms down and falls asleep really easily.

I ditched the insert. I just swaddled him in an A&A blanket and stuck him in the Ergo, happy as a clam. Once he hit 9 pounds I stopped swaddling him and he now just lays against me and sleeps (11 weeks)- all arms and legs tucked in

G is four weeks old and loves it! I use it to put him to sleep sometimes.

@JerricaBenton: same for me! I never felt that comfortable with the infant insert, and also couldn't figure out how to get her into the Ergo with a winter suit on either. She's now 6 months and we use just the pillow part of the insert and she seems happier in it. I don't know when I'll be able to ditch the insert and just use the ergo by itself. It seems I can't get her legs positioned correctly yet without it.

@lamariniere: yes - same for us exactly. Never used the infant insert but we did use the pillow at first. I don't quite remember when we stopped with the pillow but it wasn't too long.

yeah, the insert got cramped fast. i also took out the pillow from the foot end of the insert and used that at the bottom of the ergo to support LO's legs (like the rolled up blanket people are talking about)--much more comfortable for everyone involved.

DD hated the infant insert. We ended up using the Ergo without it. We used a rolled up towel
But we mostly used our K'tan when she was little. DH used the Ergo maybe twice with the rolled up towel method

Yea, we ended up ditching the insert but took the little block out. I would set it at the bottom and sit him on it and then strap him in like that.
If I did decide to use the insert, he didn't like it at first, but if I got moving he would eventually be fine and fall asleep.
Loves it a lot more now that he's older!

DD was a giant (95 percentile weight and height all through the first year) but I don't think the Ergo truly fit well until she was about 4 months old. At around 3 months or so, I started wearing her around the house in it for a few minutes each day (ya know, to throw laundry in or make a sandwich or something...the more moving around, the better) to get her used to it, and she came around. Just keep trying, I bet you'll both love it before long. I didn't buy the infant insert and had some success with a rolled up blanket at first, but also let her stand up in it w/legs and feet where the crotch goes, and that worked alright for us (I think that's how she took her first Ergo nap!).
