Yowza and I'm not sure I was ready for that talk, lol. My baby is growing up WAY too fast. I can't believe we're at a point where it's acceptable to start planning his first birthday party!
His actual birthday is on a Thursday, and DH would very much like to take a long weekend and drive up to his grandmother's old family farm in Skaneateles, NY. His name, Evan, originally comes from this grandmother--or her family, anyway. Her maiden name was Evans. The family sold the farm decades ago but MIL and FIL are very close to the current owners. DH is going to ask their permission to let us plant a tree in Evan's honor on the farm (it's around 100 acres) on his birthday.
Then back to E-town for his party. I thought for a long while about what kind of party I wanted to throw him. I'm not really a party-planner (my MIL used to be an event planner, though!) but I have the benefit of blogs and Pinterest. There are a lot of parties I'm eager to throw but by and large they'll be more appreciated when he's older.
So I was looking for a theme that would be bright and fun but not overly complicated to pull together...ease me into party-planning. Then I remembered the beautiful rainbow cake Mrs. Hopscotch blogged about recently, and thought that would be really fun to make, although I didn't quite want a rainbow theme.
So: Primary Colors.
Please forgive the billion pictures. I have no idea how to make an inspiration board. I tried last night and I just got frustrated (full disclosure I have no idea how to use my Photoshop and Paint just wasn't working for me. The sizing was awful.)
So here's what we have so far:
It'll be August, so I'm thinking cook-out. BBQ, potato salad, corn and cucumber salad, fruit, etc. I haven't even started to work that out yet.
