My SIL is getting married in TWO weeks and I haven't found any dresses that I love love. I have no role in the wedding, but photos will be taken of the family, and our girls are flower girls.
I have a dress in my closet that is kind of the classic cocktail dress. But it is a little sparkly and I feel weird wearing that to the wedding ceremony. What do you think? I have only ever worn it once, it is so comfortable, I own it already and I love the way it looks on, and I think that it would coordinate for family photos beautifully. Is it weird to wear a sparkly dress to a wedding, or am I bonkers?

When is the wedding? My first reaction is sparkly would be perfect for an evening wedding but maybe too much for daytime?

@MamaCate: The wedding itself is at 4, followed by family photos and then to the cocktail hour. I think that you hit the nail on the head--I feel weird about it being (in a church) and afternoon.
This is the dress in question. Although I want to say it seems less overall sparkly in real life. -
Maybe if you wear a cardigan over it or a pretty scarf draped around it during the ceremony part (in the church) and take it off for the festivities?

Do you have time to go shopping? Try looking around and if you don't find anything then you have a solid backup.

@misolee: I have a bit of time, but I almost don't know where to look any more! I have been to all my normal dress shops and haven't found anything that I like enough!

@woodentulip: I would wear it. Bring a pretty, simple, cardigan or wrap for the ceremony. Is the ceremony in a church? I feel like people often dress pretty fancy for the day church part when there is an evening reception, especially if there are family photos. And 4 is pretty late in the afternoon anyway.

@Foodnerd81: I like your style. I have never been a church goer, so it is really throwing me for a loop. I feel like I should wear long sleeves and ankle length plain cloth. Like a robe of some sort. But that might look even more ridiculous than this dress...

I don't think it is too sparkly, fancy, or inappropriate for church. Pretty dress! Wear it!

@woodentulip: the majority of weddings I've gone to have had church ceremonies of some sort. Most people just dress for the reception, maybe throw a wrap over their shoulders. So yeah, that dress is more appropriate and high neck long sleeves and ankle length

@woodentulip: I am a church goer and I think that dress with a wrap/cardigan at 4 pm will be great! You will probably be on the dressier side but that is better than being under dressed!

I would totally wear that with a cardigan to a church wedding and reception. Probably with black pumps and more understated jewelry.
