We had the tub all set up. My hubby is an engineer-- so his mind went there, too. Our home was built pre-1900 and we had the tub set up in an upstairs bedroom and had no problem. I never got to be in it because we ended up being a hospital transfer, but we had many people standing next to it once it was full. He did research the weight of a "full" tub of the sort we were using and did some equations to figure it out. He felt safe and comfortable with the conclusions he reached.

I had this question too, so I decided to set everything up in the basement. Sounds like I probably wouldn't need to worry about setting it up on the main floor, but my plan is to turn the basement room into a cozy birthing cave and I'm pretty set on that, lol.

@VEGMAMA: Yeah, that would probably be the most convenient. Our main floor bathroom is tiny and narrow and that was a problem I kept running into when picturing the birth tub in the living room, but the bathroom in the basement is much more open (bathroom/family closet/laundry room) and when the thought of moving the whole thing to the basement hit me it just felt right and I was just like, "Yes!" If I was having a summer baby, is totally put my birth pool outside, but this baby is due in November and it will be super cozy in the basement with the wood stove burning.
