Does amoxicillin cause hyperactivity in anyone else's child? My 8 month is on it now for an ear infection and after every dose she acts like a crazy baby. I give it to her after breakfast and dinner so she has food in her tummy and when I go to put her down for a nap or to bed shortly after, she acts crazy. Back arching, noodling off my lap, swinging her arms and grabbing whatever she can reach, banging her head into my chest, sitting up and slamming herself back down - the only way I can describe is that she's acting extremely hyper. I know her stomach is bothering her (she's on a probiotic to address) but I have no idea what the deal with this is.

Is it pink? Maybe she's sensitive to dyes?

It is pink. Is dye sensitivity a real thing? No being sarcastic - I really don't know.

Yep. Especially red dyes. It makes some kids hyperactive.

Some pharmacies can skip the dye or offer a different color/flavor. Might be worth calling to ask?

Hope that's it! Make sure any ibuprofen or tylenol is the dye free kind, too. Fortunately, that's super easy to find. Most store brands are clear.

@Madison43: DD is 18 months and on it now too for an ear infection, ours is clear and smells like bubblebubble gum she seems fine after!

@FaithFertility: I was wondering what the clear would taste like! Looks like Walgreens carries dye free suspensions in a variety of flavors if anyone is ever looking.

@MrsSRS: we ended up taking her off it altogether because the reaction was so bad and the ped said her ear looked ok. I did however end up in argument with out pharmacist who insisted there there was no red dye in it when I asked if they carried the dye free version. First, it's on the inactive ingredient list from the manufacturer and second, it's hot pink! She was all "the powder is white - it only turns pink when you add water - there's no dye"
Uh, I feel like you should have a better understanding of chemistry. Time for a new pharmacy!
