Nope. The Facebook was still pretty new when I was in graduate school in 2002. When I met my husband, he showed me his LiveJournal page. It's ancient history now, but it has a detailed account of our first dates in it.
In high school, we would send virtual flowers or crack to each other during computer class. I can't imagine what my LO and future LO will have to deal with in the social media realm.

OMG this question makes me laugh. I was out of grad school and working full time when Facebook came out.

I got Facebook the summer after graduating high school. MySpace was big when I was 15-17 though.

Facebook was available at the end of high school. It was only open to college students then, and I remember everyone being excited to get their college email addresses at the end of senior year so they could all get this "Facebook" thing, haha.

Um, no. I didn't even have an email account. Email was just getting popular when I went to college. I never had a cell phone in college, either!

@78h2o: Me too! We had to take a class my freshman year of college called "the world wide web" where they made us open Altavista.com and try searching for something..

Nope, and it wasn't around in college either! I'm glad, I can't imagine the added drama it brings...

@cascademom: Ahhhh the good old livejournal. Both DH and I had one and we totally flirted like crazy through them before we were dating!

Nope. I was on AIM and ICQ during high school. FB didn't start until college for me. I was on myspace during early college years.

@lindseykaye: I had one for awhile, but got rid of it. When I deleted it, I was feeling a total lack of privacy thanks to MIL, etc. It was the beginning of me really establishing boundaries and privacy between myself and her.

@bluestriped bee: I found out my high school/early college boyfriend was cheating on me through ICQ chats with some of his friends. I remember ICQ so much.

I am eternally grateful that fb was not around when I was in high school! There was enough drama without it. I'm a middle school teacher and it pains me to hear how much these kids put on fb and how mean they are to eachother on there. They also do stuff like "like this post if you think I'm cute" ... Which of course is a recipe for hurt feelings. I'm kind of hoping the bubble bursts before dd gets to be school aged ...... Wishful thinking?

@rrachael: That reminds me. There was a site called "Do you like?" Where you would upload your picture and people would rate you between 1-10.
I actually was still a member up until last month. Haha, like 6 years after I uploaded a photo of myself. I had to deactivate my account because I was getting 23 year olds asking me out. Oh, boy. Things I did when I was younger...

Ummm..people barely used e-mail, and it was a major luxury to have a cell phone. Yes, I am old.

Nope. I think Friendster was around in college. Testimonials?!???

@cascademom: I haven't used mine in years but I do remember at one point going back through every. single. entry. and making them private. Took forever but felt better afterward. I started mine in 1999 and haven't used it since 2007.

FB started when i was in college and i think my college was one of the early ones. i came back from studying abroad and everyone had "the Facebook." It was pretty tame until after I graduated, as I think that's when they opened it up to everyone. I remember thinking it was kinda weird/crazy when some friends from college went to work there! I thought, wow, they can hire people? ha.
I just got Instagram 1.5 years ago and I love it, but I'm glad I didn't have it during my wedding.

I grew up in a really small town.. we were basically sending smoke signals and carrier pigeons to communicate.
No FB until college and I just signed up for IG a few months ago

Neither when I was in school. I think FB is good for teens to keep in touch with family. Social skills are better developed over the phone or in person which they need a lot of practice before they go out into the 'real world' with a 'real job'. I can definitely see the appeal and release of Instagram for impulsive teens. I just think it's not good to be exposed to so much 'junk'. Maybe it's easier to weed out friends/social groups (with poor judgement, bad photography skills, taking drugs, poor grammar or not enough charisma).

Facebook was in high school but no one used it much. MySpace was still the thing.
