My parents had no rules about cussing but it was something I never did around them. DH and his brothers cussed a lot and his parents never minded!
Were you allowed to cuss?

I would get yelled at, but nothing was ever enforced. I went to a Catholic school for 12 years so us "good" kids took advantage whenever we could on the playground/outside.

I never swore in front of my parents!
Didn't realize that swearing was an option!!

Not allowed for sure. Even now I don't really swear in front of them unless I'm really mad about something, and sometimes if my dad says "Oh shit" in front of me (even now) he's correct himself and say "Oh shoot!" hahaha I find it hilarious because I curse like a sailor!
My husband, on the other hand, was allowed to curse and swear and his parents don't have much of a filter either.

No, never when I was younger. Now I do, and it still feels weird, but every once in awhile it happens.

No, not when I was younger and not now. If I let one slip in front of my kids (which doesn't happen too often) I tell them that is a grown up word and they know better than to repeat it.

Sometimes. We weren't supposed to, but my parents did all the time. When we were all older, like 16+ my step dad and mom tried to enforce "no swearing in this house" for some reason. They swore all the time, so it never worked lol.

I never really swore at all when I was growing up. Once I hit my later years in high school, every now and then I would, and it was never a big deal.

No! I did say "asshole" when I was little and got my washed with soap!

No, my parents never use swear words, so neither did we. There was a rule against it, but we just never did

It wasn't allowed, but when we got older and stubbed our toe or something, a $#!t might slip out without being a big deal

@photojane: We weren't supposed to say fart either, or suck. Definitely no cursing. Neither of my parents really curse to this day.
For a while, we weren't even supposed to say IT. My older brother and sister learned what "Do it" means (in the sexual sense) and thought it was hilarious to keep saying it, so my mom banned it. Then little 5 or 6 year old me didn't understand why my brother and sister would yell or tattle, while laughing, that I said Do it. Looking back-- they were such brats!
I still don't curse in front of my parents. I should really cut back on it more.

No!! I was never allowed to.....my brother and sister on the other hand.....they swear all the time, and they are only 16!

We didn't have any rules about it, but we also never swore in front of our parents. I will admit to having a VERY early potty mouth. Fortunately, I was smart enough to keep it to myself or just my sister when she was being a pain!

My parents never had set rules but I didn't do it around them. I still don't to an extent although I've started cussing less anyway because of LO. DH cussed around his parents but they always said they didn't like that so I never did out of respect to them.

No way! Even crap or hell were bad words in our house! I would get the bar of soap if I swore, it was not an option.

Oh God no!! I mumbled 'f***' once around the corner cause I was mad at something, and I thought I was gonna get the beat down just from the way my mother said "WHAT DID YOU SAY!?!?!" Nooo swearing in that house.

No way and as immingrants they didn't even know what those words were, haha. They will be outlawed in my house for sure, and if they ever say one they will be grounded.

No way!! My mom would get mad if I said the word "HECK", as in "what the heck!", and also "darn".
I only remember hearing my mom swear once, maybe in my late teens or early 20s, she said "sh*t" while driving!

@photojane: hahahah... also weren't allowed to say, "crap", "stupid", "hate", "gosh" etc...
when I was 3-5 yo I would swear all the time cause I loved the reaction from people when they saw a kid swear - and every single time my mom would put soap in my mouth! I remember one time I actually had to keep a bar of soap in my mouth for what seemed like an eternity! Never worked cause I kept swearing
The novelty wore off as I got older.
My dad works a blue-collar construction job and is swearing all the time; so I picked it up again in high school and now it's a real problem. I'm trying to curb it because of DS but it's SO hard!
