No and No!

I probably was to my brother. I played a lot of sports so a lot of my dads attention was on me. Looking back now though I would say I wasnt. I was extremely lucky but by the time I was a teenager I had to save up money to buy my own stuff. My parents never bought me a car or gave me a penny for university so I had to take care of a lot on my own. DH grew up the same way.

Definitely not. I had a job as soon as I could get my work permit, would get grounded on a regular for having a messy room, bad grades, etc.
My dad worked hard to afford our homes and cars but I didn't get the cool clothes, gadgets, jewelry. Not having these things made me work really hard to get there and is probably why I spoil DS. I do want to teach him to earn it when he's older though.

I was in the sense if I asked for it 9 out of 10 times I got it. But, my parents were not into material things so I wasn't a monster. I just didn't want for anything.

My husband was not spoiled. He likes to say he read books as a kid.

Nope and nope!

I wasn't spoiled with material things, but I was spoiled by parents that would drop everything to help. My father (to this day) will drop everything he is doing if I need to be picked up from the train station, hang blinds, etc. In fact, this morning, he is calling roofers to address my leaking kitchen situation.

it depends on what kind of spoiled! for material things, my parents didn't give in to a lot of our requests for stuff--they weren't into trends or fashions. for birthdays they'd get us things from our list, but there was a lot of stuff i know i asked for that i never got! dh's family was different--he had waaaay more material stuff

but for some things, i think i was pretty spoiled--like, my dad was usually in charge of dinner since my mom would work late, and he basically always would let us choose whatever we wanted for dinner (as long as it was healthy/balanced). and my parents were very generous with a lot of our academic and extra curricular pursuits--like they'd buy us any and every book we wanted at the bookstore (I was a reading fiend!)

They did tell me no quite regularly, I remember in high school I thought I should be entitled to a new sweater from The Gap every month. My mom put the kiabosh on that one.

I wasn't spoiled, but I did get lots of material things, fancy vacations etc. I got my first job as soon as I graduated high school because I was on boarding school before that so it wasn't practical:)

This is tough. I would say I never really wanted for much in the way of material things or attention. However, my parents raised me to be grateful. So I don't think it's fair to say I was spoiled. I knew not to take advantage of my parents and ask for/demand frivolous things. And if I did, they would say no anyway.

Hm. I don't think I was spoiled with material things. Not by any grand plan so much as my parents didn't have a ton of money to spoil us (not that we didn't have plenty, because we did-- but it wasn't like we got a new toy every month or anything). I was maybe a LITTLE spoiled in terms of helping out. I did have chores and had to help around the house, but not as much as some of my friends did. And my mom never made us do hard jobs like cleaning the bathroom. I pretty much just had to dust, vacuum, keep my room clean, do dishes, and sometimes do laundry or yard work.

I think my husband was super spoiled. His parents got divorced when he was 8 and there was a lot of drama about who he was going to live with. His dad basically bribed him to stay with him by buying him stuff all the time and not making him do anything around the house ever.

No. As someone said, it's hard to get spoiled when there is no money to be spoiled with. I often felt like my mother's favorite word was no. As a teenager, I was the one who felt bad asking for money to do anything or for clothes, etc. I knew my mother worked so hard to raise me on her own, and I didn't want her to extend herself for me to get more stuff. Also my mother was very strict, so I definitely didn't get to do whatever I wanted. Sometimes it was hard, but I think I am better person for it.

I think in some ways I was spoiled--not neccessarily spoiled, but given a lot of opportunities and things other kids didn't get. This wasn't really with material things--my sister & I had a strict allowance of $1 per chore and saw being able to just get .25 cent candy as a real treat, and only got new toys on our birthdays and Christmas and didn't get that many then (usually about $125). And all our clothes were used up until the time we were teenagers! They never bought us new books--we went to the library instead. But I think the ways we were spoiled were the fact that my parents went all out for our birthday parties--we would always have an elaborate theme, my mom would make an awesome cake, and a lot of times she would take us and all our friends swimming at an indoor pool somewhere. We went on a vacation every year and camping every summer. My parents always made sure we had awesome experiences, and I am still very grateful for them to this day. I also believe I was "spoiled" in the way that I never had to get a job until college--I was hugely into theatre and choir, and my parents allowed us to be super-involved in our hobbies without having to worry about getting a job which I am also very thankful for. My husband was definitely not spoiled--his parents provided for him and he had a good childhood, but money was tight and he had a single mother for much of his childhood so it definitely taught him the value of a dollar. He got his first job working in a greenhouse at 13.

Me - kind of in that they let me participate in a wide range of activities, but were super duper strict on me in regards to academics.

DH - omg, yes! And he still is!

No, definitely not. I think my DH was a little spoiled.

I wasn't spoiled when I was younger. I was pretty spoiled when I was in high school. I did have to work for gas money though. My parents still spoil me now.

So NOT spoiled, the extreme opposite of. I grew up in an extremely thrifty household. It was super annoying!

DH definitely was not - I was, moreso than him, mostly in my early life because I'm the oldest grandchild on one side of the family and the only girl on another. I never wanted for anything, but didn't have an outrageous amount of "stuff" either. BUT, that said, I started working for all my spending money (gas, fun stuff, etc) when I was 16. I continued working all through college and was always taught the importance of work and earning a living. I don't think I'm explaining this very well, but I actually really appreciate the way my parents raised me like this. I hope I can show my future kids the same well-roundedness one day.
