Between me and my brother, I was the ugly duckling growing up. My brother was such a cute baby and cute throughout elementary and junior high. But I caught up by the time we were in high school like an ugly duckling.

Yep. My middle sister was the cutest baby and got all the compliments when we were growing up.
I was the ugly duckling and became a swan (lol) when I was 20!

I didn't get cute until I became a teenager. Before that I went through a series of unfortunate hair cuts and I had awful glasses that were too big for my face.

I think so. I think a large reason was because of all the horrible bang trims and gross outfits.

for sure. i went thru a phase of braces, pink plastic glasses and bad perms. i grew into my looks when in my late teens.

Yeah, kind of. My brother was a very cute baby, very handsome adolescent, and now a good looking mid-30s guy. I had crooked teeth/retainer/braces, glasses, and was just awkward.

I was a cute baby/toddler but went through a horribly awkward phase from 9 to 14. Things got better in high school after i plucked my eyebrows, got smaller glasses and braces removed. @Rubies: i also had the crooked teeth, braces, big glasses...except add thick eyebrows to the list.

My brother was a very cute baby then became very scrawny and geeky from elementary school thru college, so that was definitely his ugly duckling phase. I was an ok baby, then pretty geeky and duckling-y until high school. So I guess I was the duckling until I became a teenager... then I swanned!

@caffeinated: OMG, don't get my started on my eyebrows! My mother wouldn't let me pluck until OAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel like my sister and I were on he same trajectory. Cute babies, very awkward and skinny from 9-16 and then swan like from 17 until kids:)

my parents always tell me i was a really ugly baby and toddler. in fact, my dad says that when he first saw me, he recoiled a bit. hahaha!

@Rubies: LOL!!! i plucked them the day before the first day of high school. I almost plucked them ALL off! My mom freaked out when she came into my room to say good night..."what happened to your eyebrows???"

I was sooo awkward looking until junior of high school!! Then I lost 15 lbs and got contacts... it worked wonders on my self esteem!

I think I was pretty cute until I was about 6 or 7. Then my awkward years lasted until I was 18 or so... My sister was always the pretty one in the family, even though she had braces (I never got them)

I definitely had an "awkward phase" growing up! I had teeth issues, ache, and my mom wouldn't leave my hair alone and it was fried from all the perms! By 15 or so, I "blossomed" haha! I'll always remember when I visited my elementary school friend, her younger brother couldn't hide his surprise and said something kind of messed-up but was supposed to be a compliment -_-

oh yes, I was! DH makes fun of me looking at old pictures. I was cute up until like 4th or 5th grade then I went through an awkward phase and didn't outgrow it until I was a freshman in high school.

I was definitely awkward when I was younger! I was super skinny with colored glasses!

I wouldn't say I was the ugly duckling, because we all had pretty bad awkward phases, but mine may have been the worst and lasted the longest! I wasn't the cutest ever baby or toddler (for some reason I had this bowl cut thing until kindergarten), but by 4 or 5th grade the awkward phase hit HARD. Bad teeth, terrible glasses, combined with the fact that I tried to style my fine straight hair the same way my older sister did her thicker curly hair, as well as wear her hand me downs that just didn't fit well... it was bad. I didn't outgrow it until around sophomore year-- grew out my bangs, got braces off and got contacts. The weird thing is, I didn't feel like I looked that bad, which I guess is good? The one thing I had going is that my skin was never that bad.

Yes! I was actually chubby from junior high through my sophomore year of college...I was so self-conscious about my weight, and I remember hearing these boys in high school talking about me where I could hear them and one of them said, "Her face is actually really pretty, she just needs to lose 10 or 15 pounds and she'd be alright." It hurt my feelings so bad- I'll never forget it. I mean, I knew it. But when I heard things like that, it killed!
At the end of my sophomore year in college, I discovered Rx diet pills (not healthy, I know) at a weight loss clinic, and they helped me to lose a lot of weight...Like I went from an 8 to a 2. My life changed completely. That is why I'm so compulsive about my weight. It was life-altering when I lost weight and became a new me. It felt so good after all those years of being chubby. I refuse to ever go back there. Pregnant, post-pregnancy, ANYTIME. That's where my fear comes from - because I truly WAS an ugly duckling!

I was rather unfortunate looking. I was so scrawny during my freshman year of high school. It got better from year to year, but I wasn't satisfied with my appearance until I reached my mid-20s.

I was so awkward in university. I can't think past that point in time

I was so ugly. Fat, awful crimped frizzy hair, huge glasses, horrible clothes from Korea with bad English sayings on them...ugh, cringing just thinking about those days!
I lost a ton of weight right before high school started, began dressing better, plucked my eyebrows, and got contacts - I looked so much better!!

I was! I had braces, pale skin and glasses at 13...then the next summer I got my braces off, whitened my teeth, got my hair highlighted and laid out all the time to get tan. People kept asking "what happened to you?" when I returned to school.
