No, both of my parents worked. DH's mom stayed home with them until they were all older in school and then started to work again. This would be ideal for me if we could swing this eventually, or if I could work parttime.

My mom and dad WOH but they owned their own business so the hours were flexible. I was never a latch key kid.

DH's mom was a SAHM and dad was WOH. His mom told me that she regrets being a SAHM and wishes that she had a career so she has always be happy that I continue to work.

My parents also encourage me to work so it is nice to have everyone's support!

Me: Mom was at home until I was in school, then worked. Dad always worked.
DH: Mom was at home until he left school. Dad always worked.

I think it did influence me to a degree. But also, I'm a writer and I just need to write. I will always do this in some capacity because I can't not do it. So, I believe I will always work in some capacity, even if it's not full time.

Both my parents worked out of the home - my 3 sisters and I had a babysitter that was absolutely fabulous and became like a grandmother to us. I was happy to get to stay at home and play with the neighborhood kids rather than have to go to daycare. I did go to playschool when I was 4, though. I'd like to set something like that up for my own kids, but daycare is the norm here in our area now, so maybe no one really does in home care anymore? I'm a teacher so I think it's a good balance between work/home.

My husband had a father who worked out of the home, and his mother stayed at home. So we see the benefits of both types of working/stay at home parents!

Me: Both parents WOH but dad worked night shift so he was able to be home with us during the day. We were latch key kids for awhile though.

DH: Dad WOH (traveled M-F only home on weekends), mom was SAH and possible WOH PT, DH went to boarding school when he was in 6th or 7th grade.

My mom WOH after my twin brother and I were born until my next brother was born when we were two. Then she was a SAHM until my youngest brother was 3 or so I think (I would have been 10). Then she was a WOHM but luckily her job began allowing people to work from home about 2 years into her job, so since then she has been a WAHM. She loves working at home and complains every time she has to go into the office.

My dad has always worked out of the home.

I believe both my husbands parents have always worked out of the home. His grandmother watched him when he was little.

My mom stayed home & worked at night on and off. Usually retail, but she did nursing for a bit. My dad worked FT.

Until I was 10, both of my parents worked full-time.

Around that age, my mom left the workforce permanently and has been on disability ever since for mental illness.

At the same time, my dad left his corporate job and opened his own business that he ran for the next 10 years (a hobby business with slot cars). My mom helped him run the business.

Since my mom didn't work and my dad had his own business, they were free to attend all of my functions and be present as parents as if they didn't have demanding full-time jobs.

The business closed a few years ago, and then my mom got sick with cancer so my dad stayed out of the work force most of the time and helped her with her medical stuff. He now works again full-time at a wholesaler.

So, there's my long answer.

DH's parents always worked. My mom was a SAHM in Korea and started working when my lil brother and I were in elem school after we moved to the states.

It def makes me wish that I could SAH for the early years; but, it's not feasible for us and I think for how I am, I'll be a better mom by working instead of being a SAHM.

My dad was and always has been a WOHD. My mom has nearly always been a SAHM. One time, when I was a teenager she got a job as a receptionist. But we were all left at home because we were homeschooled and it didn't go very well. She ended up having to quit after only a few months. So ever since she's stayed a SAHM (there are still two kids left at home).

DH's parents are both WOH parents, his mom was SAHM for a little while but they just couldn't afford it.

Both DH and I had SAHMs. That didn't affect my decision to be a SAHM though...our moving abroad did.
