It could be anything; from your childhood or more recent..
Mine is actually kind of funny. My dad always used to say, "every time you get in your car (in the winter), dress like you're going to be stranded." It actually happened several times as a kid. MN is generally a pretty rural state, so it's easy to be on your way somewhere and happen to get stuck in the middle of nowhere. Although I mainly drive in the metro, I definitely keep it even more in mind if we're going somewhere we usually don't go. I've found that my cell phone does not like MN temps so it often dies in the cold - it's not a fool-proof mechanism to get out of situations like that!
We laugh because of how much we bundle J in the car, he often wears leg warmers under fleece pants, three shirts, a fleece jackets and a warm blanket on top. Plus, gloves that go up his arms and a hat. In months as cold as January, I always wear leggings under my pants! Our car has been a trooper and hasn't failed to start yet but I like to be prepared.
