At what age do you and/or your SO want to retire? Is there a set age or a point with money or after # years working?
I started in a government position at age 23. So after 30 years of service I would be up for a retirement, putting me just at age 53. I obviously won't have enough saved to live off but I would consider retiring and getting a different low stress job.

In a dream world, 55! Even if I was able to, I think I'd pick a side/part time job that I truly enjoy while I'm "retired" until I hit about 65 to continue feeding my retirement so I can truly just kick back and "travel the world"!

My parents retired in their low 50's and that was my goal until I realized it's unattainable for us. Don't even get me started.....
ETA: As for money, we feel we will need about $2MM in the bank to retire so....yeah. Never happening. Haha.

Never! My 90 year old great aunt still teaches art twice a week and swears that it's what keeps her young & happy.
I wouldn't want to work a stressful, full time job forever, but I do want to keep working as long as I can. Even if I'm just an old lady at a perfume counter somewhere

I don't know....there is a part of me that views retirment as "quitting and waiting to die." I am totally off-base in reality, but I think I will be a little sad when I retire. Lets see how I feel in 30 years though

In teaching, with the rule of 80...
I started work at 23, so I could work 28 1/2 years (till age 51 1/2) and retire. Theoretically.
My mom retired in one state, moved to another state and kept working full time as a teacher. Next year, she will have 10 years in the new state and will be eligible for a second retirement.
So maybe I'll do something like that?

Sort of never. I would like to stop working full time by the time I’m in my 50’s which is very doable since our home will be paid off, we’ll own other income producing investment property that will be paid off, I’ll have 25+ years of 401k contributions, LO will be in college and that should be mostly paid for and my husband plans to teach well into his 70’s, so we would also have his income. That’s if everything goes according to plan; which doesn’t always happen!!!

DH has the rule of 80 for his job, with an amazing pension (if it lasts, who knows with pensions these days) so he'd be early 50s and I'd do the same I would think. However, I told him if we have all girls, we will be paying for weddings so he might have to keep working for a few extra years

Hubs wants to retire at 45 and is worried that having kids is going to ruin that for him, haha.
I was thinking more like 55, but I don't know if we will be able to, financially.

I'd say it depends on the kind of life we'd want to live really. Ideally we want to have quite a bit of disposable income when we're retired to travel and such.
If we were willing to settle for a much less elaborate retirement life, we could probably retire at around 40-ish easily. We are currently 26 and we'll be finished paying off our current home in just 2 more years, so if we wanted to just live here forever we'd basically be set... but we have rather larger plans than that. We'll probably end up semi-retiring at around 55 (like DH's father. His mother has been a SAHM/SAHW since she had kids with only doing some part time work here and there) and fully retiring around 60.

I'd like to stop working full time at 60. Then either get a job where I have flexible hours, or just do a lot of volunteer work. When we move home to MA my parents will be available to help us out with child care and I would love to be able to do that for my kids some day.

Never! Staying at home is too boring. I will probably retire and get and get a fun job.. work until my old bones won't let me.

My DH wants to retire at 50. I think he'll be 55 when he actually does. I'll retire (if I'm working) when he does.

I'm hoping for around 55. I work for a state agency and have since I was 22, so I should be eligible for a fairly early retirement age if I stay here for 30 years. I don't think I could stay home the whole time though, I'd probably get a low-stress part-time job! DH will probably not retire until his 60s

I'm not sure I want to retire ever, though I'd love to start working part time when I get into my 60's. I'm not sure that I'm going to want to keep working the hours I work or nights after a certain point. Right now it's fine.
