So far, we've covered pre-TTC to age 3... Bee actually wrote a neat gift guide for 3yo's today!

How far do you think Hellobee should go... at what age should the site stop?

I noticed on another board that after people's kids are 6 or so they stop using the boards for parenting stuff as much. I think this is in large part due to the fact that things just change with grade school. It seemed like a natural point where people lost interest in those boards so that might be a consideration.

I don't know...but definitely past 3! I'd say maybe birth-5? Up until kindergarten for sure.

I would say up to school age (5-6). That seems a natural stopping point . After that, if there is a demand later on you can always expand.

I am looking for more information on parenting.. It seems beyond the scope of hellobee at this point. From a practical perspective I think max for hellobee would be 5 yr old but I would love to find a site that caters to 5-10.

@autumnlove: @mrbee: To me 10 is another natural stopping point since many school systems would place 11 yr olds in junior high.

@T-Mom: We might do a K-6 education site at some point! It would probably be a separate site though...

@mrbee: I would love it of you guys did this! I actually think that parents do still actively participate in online communities as the kids age, but maybe in different ways. For example my local moms group is really active on listserv and those parents have kids up to high school. The type of things that come up in those emails are topics like learning disabilities, family problems, birds and the bees (eek), enrichment classes, schools, etc.

If you don't do a separate k - 6 site then definitely do hello be to an older age. But I would LOVE a k - 6 site. Like meow.
My step boys are 5 & 8 and I have really no one to talk to about it. Can get really frustrating sometimes since I'm not their natural mom and haven't been in their lives as long as everyone else. Other parenting advice for more mature kids would be lovely.

@.twist.: maybe you can look into a local moms group? I have received a lot of support from my local moms group (I found on yahoo groups) and many of them are way ahead of me in terms of kids' age. I have only met a few in person and everything is very virtual. It helps to have ppl who have gone before you give advice. Also, my DD is 4.. Not as old as yours, but maybe we should form some kind of board within hellobee for support.

@T-Mom: maybe we could have Hellobee focus on parenting and another site that focuses on education!
@.twist.: Are there good sites for step parents?

@mrbee: that's an interesting thought? Instead of "say hello to baby", the tagline could be "welcome to parenthood".. Oh wait I think pampers already uses that! So I guess the education site is focused more on the more technical aspects of education and Parenting is everything is everything else?
The great thing about hellobee right now is that the scope is really narrow and focused so you can really get into the nitty gritty about certain topics like breastfeeding issues, e.g. Seems like that type of info would get lost if you make the whole thing just "parenting."

@T-Mom: well the age focus of Hellobee probably won't change too much.
Not sure that a parenting site for tweens and teens would be a must read site?

@T-Mom: Thanks! I'll check them out. My situation is a little unique because their mom is kind of crazy...
@mrbee: I've tried to find some step-parent sites but they are not very active. At least, as far as I noticed...

@mrbee: hm I dunno... There seem to be plenty of books
Out there on the topic...Like "queen bees and wannabes".. Sounds pretty intense, I'm sure I could use a Tween parenting site when I get there...
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@T-Mom: We'd probably wait til we have tweens before making that decision!

@T-Mom: yea. It's been better the last couple years but it does get challenging, especially knowing boundaries. She thinks I pretend to be their mom. Like I want to replace her. I've never actually met her because she hates me and I'm scared of her. lol.

I think through kindergarten is a natural stopping point (so age 5-ish). Once kids are in school, I think the parenting issues get a little different than what is covered on this site...

I agree Kindergarten or 1st grade would be a good stopping point.
