I am sending a belated gift for a friend's shower i could not attend because i live in a different city. Before i moved i only saw her at gatherings and we are not close. But she came to all of my events (wedding, showers, etc.) and is very sweet. I am going to send her a gift card and book, but wondering how much i should give?

$50 is a generous gift for someone that you don't know really well. I give $50 unless its a very close friend/family member.

I think $50 is very generous for someone you aren't close to. I think it would be plenty, especially since you're pairing it with a book.

My friends are very generous, and i got so many gift cards that ranged from $50-$80! $50 is usually the minimum i will spend. I find that the older i get, i feel like i should spend more!

@caffeinated: yeah I agree! We just had lo's dohl a couple weekends ago and most of the gifts were in the $70 range. We have several birthday parties in the coming weeks that I had to shop for today - feel so broke after all the shopping!
