We are taking a road trip this weekend with our almost 1 year old. Travel each way will be 7-8 hours, and we will be driving on Friday and the following Monday. LO is a really good traveller and spends the majority of time in the car sleeping. But we normally only drive for 2-3 hours at a time.
Does anyone have any advice for games/activities to play with him for when he's not sleeping? I get motion sickness on occasion, so I don't know if it's feasible to read him stories.

Magnadoodle?!
I just got DD one and she LOVES IT!
I obviously took away the small stamps and just gave her the large pen!

I got him color wonder mess free markers, stickers, and a seek and find kind of book when he was that age for a road trip. The seek and find book was good because it was just "find the bird" and stuff like that vs actually reading a whole story.
And he got videos and games on the iPad.

DS is obsessed with buttons/electronics so I collected and borrowed as many things with buttons as possible. I'd hand him one at a time and wait till he got bored before the next.
Books for him to look through, snacks, and stopping every few hours is how we got through similar car rides. We've made it through a few without having to resort to screens!

At that age we would just sing in the car or I had a bag of toys and he would just play with one until he was tired of it. Between that and stopping to stretch, change diapers and eat it was all we needed. I also gave board books.

We just did a long plane ride with our almost two year old. He really enjoyed the Melissa and Doug Water Wow.

@jhd: my 2 y/o also loves Water Wow. She played with it non-stop on a recent flight.
In the car she plays with her B Toys Magnetic drawing board. It is big and is a good surface for doing other colouring as well.

Magna doodle for sure! We did a few long trips when she wS one, and she loved Water Wow and MagiClips princesses. We also got her a few new toys-plastic dinosaurs, princesses, stickers, a ball. I was nervous, but she ended up doing really well!

Sensory toys, too! Could you fill a small clear bottle with water and glitter? She loved that.

DD (15 mo) is super into buckles lately; I'm getting her a buckle toy and she can probably spend a long time doing that!
I do let her watch some videos for long car rides. I have this thing that I can attach to the carseat mirror -
