I went abroad a few years ago and forgot my contacts and birth control. Whoops! I was gone for 3 months so my roommate mailed it to me.

I've forgotten my cell phone more times than I can count. I've forgotten my eye glasses and one time, I forgot to pack pants. I had shorts and skirts, but not one pair of pants.

I often forget my toothbrush. Once I forgot socks, but luckily I was going to my parents' house so I just stole my moms!

I used to pack for DH until one time I didn't pack him any underwear or socks. He thinks I did it on purpose so he wouldn't ask me to do it anymore!

Mine is not a normal essential, but I forgot my travel fan. I was 7 months pregnant and the room we were staying in had no air circulation at all....I felt like I was suffocating. I made it through one night and then went out and bought a little fan that stays in my duffle bag.

@lovehoneybee: my husband has to pack his little desk fan whenever we travel-- he sleeps with it on low, but straight on his face!
I usually forget contacts, lotion, and the white noise machine.
