What are some "TOP" restaurants in the world you want to try?

Do you have a "top" restaurant in the world you want to try?
What list is it from?
Or is it a restaurant of a favorite celebrity chef?

Top on my list right now is one of Geoffrey Zakarian's restaurant in NYC. We LOVE him on the Next Iron Chef and Chopped so we're dying to try "his" food.
We're hoping to try The Lambs Club for our 2nd Year Anniversary. It'll be right around when we drive my mom back to NYC!

I know top of my friend's list is The French Laundry in CA. Mucho bucks!

I don't know! Both places you listed look good! I'm gonna google restaurants in my area and see if we can check one out tomorrow!

The French Laundry is amazing! So is per se here in NY! I haven't been to Geoffrey Zakarian's restaurant so I will have to try it! We ate at The Fat Duck in Berkshire and it was simply amazing. Our favorite restaurant ever is El Bulli in Spain and I am so sad it closed He wants to make a brand new venue for 2014 and I can't wait!

@chopsuey119: hahaha you're funny! I LOVE browsing Urbanspoon for restaurants and adding it to my wishlist!

@ecogirl: How did you get a reservation to The French Laundry?? I've heard it's near impossible to get a reservation unless you know someone. My friend and her husband was prepared to fly to SF to try it for their wedding anniversary if they could have gotten a reservation. She literally called daily for weeks.

@ecogirl: oh mannn you are sooo lucky!!! Bummer that he left! haha I totally would have asked you to pull some magic to get my friend a reservation. Would that not be THE best Christmas or birthday present? I can't treat you to French Laundry but I did one better....I got the one thing money can't even buy! A reservation! hahahha

My sis just went to the French Laundry on her babymoon. She has yet to give me a full review... Can't wait! We are relocating to CA this year, so I'm sure we'll go too at some point. We've been to Per Se here in NYC and enjoyed it....

Other top restos (on the world's 50 best list) I've been to are Eleven Madison Park (we went many times, pre-kids), Momofuku Ssam (surprised this was on the list!), and Alain Ducasse @ Plaza Athenee (had the BEST dessert of my life there!). ETA: Jean Georges too.

We've been to Alinea here in Chicago, which was was named the best restaurant in North America in 2011. It was definitely an amazing experience, but not a place I would ever go back to! It was "deconstructed" food... interesting but not delicious.

The coolest thing was that we were seated right next to Stephanie Izard, who was winner of season 4 of Top Chef and she was super nice, haha.

We just hit a trio of celeb chef restaurants in Vegas: Rick Moonen's, Tom Colicchio's, and Mario Batali's. We saw Moonen, and at Batali's sat next to Newt Gingrich, ha. All were excellent!

My sister works at Incanto in SF, but honestly I am not much of a gourmet type. All the odd ingredients just don't sound enjoyable to me (organs and such). Although, if I were to go and visit her, I am sure that I would want to try it there just to say that I did.

I don't know of a place I would really like to go, but I did eat at the Top of the Hub in Boston a couple of times and had really superb meals. I'd much rather have a really, really good steak somewhere than a small fancy meal though. The best one that I had was outside of El Paso, TX,

We collect Iron Chef's- We've been to Bobby Flay's in Vegas every time we go. We went to Batali's in Vegas for my birthday a year ago. Most recently we went to Michael Symon's B-Spot in Cleveland this past fall, they were all amazing!

I tease my husband that because we ate at Symon's place when I was 8 months along, that is why our baby is bald and looks similar to Symon

We've also gone to Pizzaria Bianco here in Phoenix, usually rated one of the top pizza places in the country- it was excellent, but the wait was 3 hours!

I really want to try French Laundry someday. The other one that I always wanted to try was Chez Panisse in Berkeley... our friends took us there as a wedding gift, and it was SO good.

@regberadaisy: I have a friend who took his family to French Laundry. It was $250 a person and had something like 17 courses, lasting 3-4 hours. I couldn't do it!

Alinea and Tru in Chicago, Tetsuya's, Rockpool, and Longrain in Sydney, Jean Georges in Shanghai, Cumulus in Melbourne, Aronia de Takazawa, Gordon Ramsay, Aquavit, and L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon all in Tokyo.

@MaisyMay: Yup, def not affordable by any means. hhaha but if you look at it almost like buying a house...price/SF. That might be considered affordable?

@ecogirl: the better question is how did you get into El Bulli? That was always my dream restaurant.

I have been to the Fat Duck a few times and it was amazing. I prefer that over Per Se/French Laundry.

Momofuku Ko! I get most excited about eating sushi out at restaurants since it's so hard to make for yourself. DH and I go out to nice restaurants a lot, but it's rarely for japanese since it's so darned expensive.

For those of you who have trouble getting a reservation at a popular restaurant, one thing you can do is go there for lunch. It's much easier to get a reservation or just to be seated in general. DH and i do that all the time in NYC when a place is too hot.

We loved The French Laundry, so I've been wanting to try Per Se next time we're in NY. Local restaurants I've been wanting to try are Chez Panisse and Manresa.

@lemondrop: We collect Iron Chefs, too! We've been to Bobby Flay and Batali's restaurants a couple times. I also really enjoyed Morimoto in Napa.

@regberadaisy: I've gotten French Laundry reservations twice by calling and once online. It's a lot of persistence and a lot of luck. Worth it, though! I loved it.

@Maisymay: It's more like 9-10 (unless you count every time they offer you bread?), and they're pretty small courses. You do end up *very* full, though. I couldn't finish my dessert, which was a shame.

@regberadaisy: Yes I did! My favorite Geoffry moment on that show was when they chastised him at the baseball stadium, and he's like I'm not dumbing down my food, this is what I do! haha
