What's everyone currently reading? I haven't had time to read much since LO was born but would love to start up again.

Just started Cinderella Ate My Daughter by Peggy Orenstein. I just finished the audiobook Queen Bee Moms & Kingpin Dads. I really need to read something non-parenting related!

I'm ashamed to admit it, but I don't think I've read anything non-baby-related this whole year! :T

Hey that's ok, it's surprising to even find the time to read while being a parent!

A Casual Vacancy. Many of my friends have had babies in the past few months. We're reviving our book club so our brains don't turn into baby mush.

Outliers (which is so funny that @ Mrs. Bee mentioned it in her blog post) and Life of Pi because I'm teaching it next.

@caffeinated: I saw that at a store and really wanted to get it. Tell me how it is!
I'm currently reading The Mother-daughter book club. I started it this afternoon and am only 44 pages it, but it seems pretty good so far.

I'm reading Ender's Shadow... and Secrets of the Baby Whisperer for Toddlers.

I'm currently listening to an audio book: Dexter is Delicious. It's book 5 in the Dexter series, and I haven't even listened to books 1 - 4 (but I love the tv show!). I just picked it up randomly from the library. It's actually a really good book, the writer is oddly hilarious and sarcastic, I'm gonna go back and get the first few books!

I'm reading "Lone Wolf" by Jodi Picoult. It's really good so far!
@c.sassy: how is it so far? It's on my reading list.
coconut / 8498 posts
@Sweet T: Well, it's no HP It's just okay so far. I'm enjoying it, but it's not one that I can't put down. As expected, the character development is very good!

@Sweet T: I love Picoult's works. She's one of the few authors that I actually get in hardback.

@Mrs. High Heels: I really liked Ender's Shadow even though I'm not into sci-fi.

I am reading a book called The Child Theif by Brom.
It's a gory Peter Pan tale, it's .... boring.
Next up I'm reading Water for Elephants or The Gunslinger.

@c.sassy: that's what I've read on goodreads. I heard she's going back to children's books.
@MaisyMay: Me too! I've only read one that I didn't care for. Her books are always the kind that I cant put down.
@.twist.: I loved water for elephants!! Ape house (same author) was also a great book!

@Sweet T: I'm excited to read it! I am just trying to get through this one first.
I really hate when you start reading a book you don't enjoy, I have such a hard time not finishing books, even if I don't like them.
pomelo / 5321 posts
@.twist.: same here. I try finishing them regardless. However, I have tried to read "julie & Julia" on three different occasions and can't make myself finish it. I was so disappointed because I really love the movie!

Two YA books - "Messy" and the latest in the Gallagher Girls series (about a boarding school that trains girls to be spies), and my adult book of the moment is John Grisham's new one "The Racketeer."
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@Sweet T: I didn't read it, but I loved the audio book version of Julie and Julia - one of those ones where I'd sit in my car in the driveway to hear the end of the chapter.

@.twist.: @Sweet T: as a librarian, I give you permission to stop reading any book you dislike! why waste your time finishing "bad" ones when you could be reading something awesome?

@Mrs. Tricycle: I'm reading a YA series, too - the Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels by Rick Riordan. It's entertaining but a little too pop culture for me.
blogger / pear / 1964 posts
@Honeybee: I haven't actually read Percy Jackson yet -- I probably should, but the books have no trouble "selling themselves" so I don't feel the need to book talk them or anything to students

@Mrs. Tricycle: Major motion pictures are pretty great marketing for kids.
I just fininshed Ursula Le Guinn's Earthsea rotation which I think is classified as YA. Those are some of the best books I've read in a while but kimd of heavy, so I was looking for a "fluff" read

I gave up on books. My free time now is crafting for Chanukah and birthday gifts. We have lots of November birthdays in my family.

I'm reading Mindy kaling's book, is everyone hanging out without me. It's ok--nowhere near as funny as Tina fey's book bossy pants. I've also been meaning to buy Justin cronin's new book, the sequel to the passage.

I just finished a hologram for the king by Dave Eggers. It was ok. I liked Zeitoun much, much better.
Now I'm going to start when she woke by Hillary Jordan. And then hopefully start tackling my hypnobirth book. Cause I've been procrastinating like crazy on that.

@DigAPony: I read that one! How are you liking it?
Currently reading "Telegraph Avenue" by Michael Chabon and about to start "The Rook" by Daniel O'Malley for my book club.

The Host by Stephanie Meyer (Twilight author) it's actaully pretty good!

@c.sassy: are you liking it? I loved the HP books!
@hilsy85: Bossy Pants was the.best.
I'm reading Les Miserables - I've never seen the play and want to see the movie when it comes out but want to read the book first! Its like a bazillion pages long, though. I've been reading it for 2 weeks and my kindle only has me at 5% completed. Waaah!
honeydew / 7687 posts
@hilsy85 I thought the EXACT same thing, I read Bossypants first then Kalings right after and was really let down. A few parts were funny but it all seemed really whiny and focused on her weight/looks... total opposite of Bossypants which blew my socks off for being funny and actually meaningful
I just started Life of Pi - I'd picked it up at Goodwill a while back and the movie trailers reminded me to read it!

@coacheswife123: It's nothing like HP. At all. So you can't read it with that expectation. It does have fantastic character development, and there is a complex somewhat interesting plot. But it's a little too much for me. A little too much drama and scandal to the point that it's not relatable. I have a hard time feeling like I'm "there."
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@coacheswife123: I read Les Miserables in my high school English class and I do remember it being a tough one!
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Mrs. Tricycle: I so agree with you, I guess I just have so much hope that the books will get better. In this particular case, it was recommended and lent to me by a very good friend. Normally I trust her reading choices but I'm just hoping this gets better before I have to tell her that I gave up on it!! haha

"The Other" by David Guterson. I like it and it's creepy but I think I already figured out the twist
pear / 1787 posts
@meredithNYC: I'm loving it so far! I'm a big Aimee Bender fan. She came to my university last year and I got to meet her. What was your take on the book? Also--love Michael Chabon!
pomegranate / 3314 posts
@DigAPony: I actually really liked it, though it was darker than I expected. I think because of the title and cover art I figured it would be more commercial? But I prefer dark, so it worked out for the best anyway.
And I have never read any Chabon before, but I'm really into it so far. All kinds of issues are covered: race, class, the effects of gentrification and even midwifery!
grapefruit / 4819 posts
@coacheswife123: Les Mis is a monstrous book to get through! I've seen the musical several times and LOVE it but just couldn't get into the book. I think I got through about 400 pages and was only starting to get into the actual story that is portrayed in the musical. Ugh.
I love reading but am STILL working my way through Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. I've only been reading it for about two months now, sigh. It's a great book but there's just so little time to read now!
