Rock n play - mine had vibration feature which I liked.
Nose frida
Burp cloths - I like the really thick diaper ones. I got them monogrammed so they wouldn't be as ugly
Formula pitcher - I FF and it made life easier to mix a big batch
Fisher price piano kick play mat - once they could kick they loved this thing.
A lot is dependent on your baby. One of my boys liked pacifiers. The other didn't. Neither liked to be swaddled. It all depends!

Just an alternate opinion on the nipple cream... my hospital LC told me to use plain old olive oil. It was really effective, and all natural so I had no concern about the baby ingesting it, and I didn't have to go buy something we didn't already have in the house.
grapefruit / 4321 posts
@pachamama: A&A Blankets are the best thing around. They can be a swaddle, a place to lay baby down for tummy time, a burp cloth, a nursing cover, a lovey when baby is older. They rule.

-breast pump with extra parts
-Swaddleme Velcro swaddles then eventually a Merlin Sleepsuit
-Rock n Play- I wish we hadn't gotten a swing since we never used it. We solely used the rnp.
-My Brest Friend as a newborn and a Boppy as an infant
-activity mat- we spend a lot of tummy and play time on there

I liked our A&A blankets, but I can live without them too. They're nice to have but I feel like I didn't use them as often as everyone made it seem like I would.

Moby or other soft snuggle carrier
Rock and play
Video monitor
White noise machine (unless you live someplace really quiet with the baby's room far from everything else)
Blackout curtains/ shades - our room darkening curtains weren't enough and I got the paper redi-shades from Home Depot for $8 each. Best money I spent.
In case you can't tell, my kid didn't (doesn't) like sleep.
And she still sleeps with the A&A swaddle blankets every night. We only used them for swaddled for a few weeks but we use them for a ton of other functions. We just have one four pack and it's been enough, though she was never a spitter. I'm getting baby 2 her own four pack.

Boppy/My Brest Friend (I like both for different reasons)
Swaddles (I bought sooo many and ended up using the simple velcro swaddles)
Burp clothes (I love A&A ones.. big, absorbent and can wear it like a bib too)
White nose machine (I have this one http://amzn.com/B0091E31KM)
Nose Frida
Nipple cream (earth mama angel baby fan too.. Or anything NOT lanolin... that worked but it's so sticky!)
K'Tan or Moby or any soft wrap like carrier for newborn days, then more structured ones like Ergo for later
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
@SeptMomma12: oh yes! The exercise ball saved my life. I would not be upset if this new baby doesn't require hours of bouncing though.

My brest friend pillow
Baby carrier (i loved the Beco Gemini, but there are plenty to choose from)
Baby swing
Stroller (big basket preferred)
clothing that is easy to nurse in public in
I can't say the A&A blankets were a must have for me as I didn't get them for almost a year, but even at that age, they were amazing and i wished i had them from birth (as I will LO2)...but i did manage to survive without them.
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@pachamama: we actually didn't use A&A blankets as swaddles because he broke right out. We did use them as giant spit up clothes though because he had terrible reflux and spit up constantly.

@pachamama:
1) Baby Bjron Bouncer (it's called the 'baby-sitter')*
2)Rock n' play (with vibration)
3) DropCam (monitor)
4) Dohm White Noise Machine
5) Bjorn Carrier 1
Honorable mentions for ALL kinds of burp cloths, whatever pacifier your baby likes (I tried a bunch-my baby hated the soothies and loves Mam), and whatever kind of swaddle blanket/device your baby likes and cannot break out of.
* That Bjorn Bouncer....it's THE BEST. I bought it used here on HB and it was worth every single penny! We are JUST going to retire this now at 9 months bc my son literally cannot fit in it any more, but he still loves it. I've sent all my friends who are expecting to buy it!

@snowjewelz: Yes-I have both nursing pillows and like them for different reasons!
@birdofafeather: Yep-my son broke out of A&A blankets quite easily, so those Halo swaddles were life savers!
@hilsy85: Mother Love Cream-I give it to all my friends who are expecting! It's the best out there.
I guess we need to give the Nose Frida another go in the (hopefully distant) future! My son's only been sick once in his life and we found the blue bulb way more effective, but so many of you recommended it!

1. Nightlight in the nursery, so we didn't have to stumble around
2. Blackout curtains to help day time sleep
3. Halo brand swaddles and eventually sleep sacks
4. Our stroller: I would have been housebound without it
5. Solid surface changing pad for the changing table.

1. Video monitor
2. Motherlove nipple cream
3. Snuggabunny swing (a lifesaver, however she didn't actually like this until 6 weeks old)
4. Rock and play
5. Baby carrier (we had a k'tan and an ergo with infant insert)
Also: Halo swaddles, burp clothes, stroller

1. Halo Easy Swaddle Sleepsacks- life saver. Bought them when she was 2 days old, and nothing worked. She likes her arms out!
2. Fisher Price Snugabear Swing- We received the mamaroo off our registry, and it doesn't swing. It has five almost all the same settings. No, my LO wants to swing! They come in many different designs, but man do they work. We now have one at our house, and one at my parent's house.
3. Burp cloths- I didn't register for them. Figured I didn't need them for a while. Babies spit up, and drool a lot. And mine has acid reflux, so she projectile vomits. We keep them any and everywhere. Stroller, couch, nursery, car, etc...
4. Aiden and Anais swaddle blankets- I didn't know what all the fuss was, as they're really large pieces of thin fabric. But, they work great as stroller covers, burp cloths, changing pad in a pinch, etc.. We actually never use ours to swaddle
5. A good stroller- I purchased the uppa baby Cruz, and have already put some miles on it. LO isn't even 11 weeks yet! Screaming baby+Stoller+Outside noise= Sanity saver. A smooth ride, easy to push, and durability. Plus, I love that she can face me.
6. Wubbanub Pacifiers- I registered for and received two of these. I am so glad I did. Pacifiers are so easy to lose. These have a soft plush animal attached to them, so it's easy to find. Plus, LO can kind of put it back in his or her mouth easier, and mine enjoys massaging the animal as kind of self-soothing!
7. Sleepers- When LO was mere days old we were not dressing her up in outfits. Sleepers all day long. Easy zip up and down are our favorites, but we did get some button down styles as well. I didn't register for any, and wish I had. My mom had purchased some 0-3 months, but DH had to go out and buy a bunch of newborn.

1. swing - we have the Snuggabunny
2. Activity mat/gym
3. Burp cloths - Burt's Bees white ones are my fav

1. Boba wrap (I use a Tula now that she's bigger but the wrap was excellent for newborn days.)
2. Bjorn babysitter bouncer
3. The peri bottle they give you at the hospital- I use it for diaper changes.
4. California baby and earth mama angel baby diaper creams/balms.
5. Huge stacks of burp cloths scattered about the house.
I agree with those who mentioned the exercise ball, I spent a lot of time bouncing my newborn on that thing, luckily I already had one and used it a ton in the last weeks of pregnancy too.

1) A small portable swing. It went with us everywhere and he took great naps in it. I loan it out to friends now for their new babies!
2) A video monitor.
3) Halo sleep sacks. After we quit swaddling, he has slept in these and they still work great at 19 months. I don'thave to bother with blankets or pajamas
4) Nosefrida. A serious game changer.
5) A humidifier. We are either running the heat or air, and the humidifier helps everyone. Tip: always use distilled water and they don't get moldy

A&A swaddle blankets
Playmat
pump
Room darkening/blackout curtains. Must have.

trying to mention things others haven't already!
1. Summer Infant SwaddleMe - swaddles with velcro! so easy.
2. BabyConnect app - so helpful for tracking feedings and later, naps. we have used it every day for the past 11+ months.
3. baby carrier - I had the k'tan for the early days but didn't love it. I would probably try the solly baby wrap in its place. around 6-8 weeks we starting using the Beco Gemini which DH & I both love!
4. white noise - we use an iPhone dock and the free "Relax Melodies" app
5. Angel Dear loveys
