Just curious what method you use between kids. I'm not sure what we are going to do since we want to have a second child but not for another year or two.

condoms, pull out, or abstinence depending on the week!

Ha ha ha ha ha. I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who voted, "we just don't have sex." HA HA HA.

The pill primarily, but we have also used condoms as a backup occasionally.
ETA I just realized you mean between kids. I don't have any LOs yet, but I don't plan on ever going on the pill again. We'll probably use a combination of NFP and condoms between children.

The pill. I don't trust other methods. And i am not supposed to have periods, anyways.

I charted to avoid for 4 years before LO came along but with wacky sleep I didn't trust myself inbetween kids so copper IUD it was! After the next, it's DH's turn - snip, snip!

It just honestly depended on our mood. We wanted to have our kids close together so, we made the decision to not go on any birth control.
My LO's will be about 17.5 months apart. I am pretty happy about it.

Right now we just abstain (aka I'm way too tired to even contemplate that, not to mention kind of scared). We will use a combo of condoms and pull out. After I'm done bfing I might chart/nfp again.
I was on the pill for years and much prefer being off of it now!

DH is very much against hormonal BC methods, so we use condoms. But, at some point, even with the risks, I plan to go back to them. Life was just easier that time of the month.

IUD! I love it so far. After we the baby factory is closed, DH will get snipped.

I'm on the minipill but I need to either start charting or get an IUD asap. I am terrible at remembering to take it, and lord knows I don't need to be pregnant at 12 weeks pp!!

@autumn865: We were just having this conversation ... We used the pull out method for 5 years without any scares or pregnancies. I just kept track of my period (by charting) and knew when I ovulated (we would still have sex during that time, but just pull out).
I am against hormonal birth control (it makes me insane), and the pull out method (when used properly) is just as effective (if not more) than condoms.
We have friends who are pregnant now who also use the pull out method ... they were drunk and had sex 'just one time', and BAM, baby town!! Ha. It's about really communicating & being sure you & your partner will really stick to it.

Condoms. I hated being on the pill, and we want to have our kids close together so didn't really want to deal with anything hormonal.

@mediagirl: haha, I just voted that! I'm 13 weeks postpartum and we still haven't DTD! I don't know why I'm so nervous.

I was on the pill but that was because I get wicked cramps when I'm not on it. Loving my doctor for giving me some pain meds to make AF more bearable before I get the BFP!

I was on birth control in between kids and had my tubes tied with my last c section

Between #1 and #2... we used condoms because I didn't want to mess with hormonal birth control. We had planned to try again relatively soon.
Now that we have our 2 kids and don't know if we want any more, I'm on the Mirena IUD since it lasts 5 years.

Condoms, then I went back in BCP. Both times we used the pull out method as well. After LO is born I'm going to use natural family planning.

After LO was born, I exclusively breastfed for 12 months. I know BF is not a BC method, but I didn't get my period until 10 months postpartum and haven't gotten pregnant yet! We were, and still are, in the "if it happens it happens/ NTNP" mindset.

Mirena IUD before and after LO. I am not ok with a "whatever happens, happens" baby, so I wanted something completely fool-proof and didn't want to have to remember to take a pill every day. Love it.

We aren't at the between babies stage yet but I had a Mirena for 4.5 years and I have every intention of going back to it once we get to that stage. For me, it was the only birth control method that didn't cause unwanted side effects, it has the pleasant side effect of making my periods all but disappear.

I don't have a little one yet. But seriously, I'm on cycle 4 TTC. I honestly thought I could get pregnant any day of the month. I can't believe I took the pill religiously every day for 10 years like my life depended upon it. I will never get back on the pill again. I will just avoid sex during the days leading up to my ovulation and just let nature take its course. I don't mind lots of kids. But seriously, I'm praying to even just have one!!

Between our two I was on BC, and we used 'backup'(condoms) sometimes and well we ended up with a surprise BFP... I have an IUD now, because we are done! And obviously I suck at taking the pill lol

I got the depo shot after having LO for 3 cycles. But have now come off it and will stick with condoms until we're ready to try again. When we're done with kids I'll try the mirena again (my body rejected the 1st one)

We're 8 weeks pp, so at the moment we're using the "sheer terror of attempting sex again" and 'we have a newborn that only sleeps being held" method, but I did get a prescription for the pill again at my 6 week appointment.

Those who have IUD: are u happy with it? Any negative side effects?

Charting and condoms for 1-2 weeks during my fertile window to be safe.

Those of you who said you chart: do you mean you temp or do you just sort of guess your cycle?
We use today'sponge but with my lack of drive and. Other of us exhausted we are not having much action.
pear / 1799 posts
@MrsMccarthy: For us, I temped for 3 months to confirm my cycle ... then we'd use the pull-out method during my peek fertility week. Actually, we used the pull-out method 99% of the remainder of the month, too (like, didn't do it only once or twice a month when I KNEW I wasn't near ovulation).
Those first 3 months gave me a really clear idea of when I O'd (it was consistent). When I started working out, my cycle length changed, so once again, I charted (temped) to keep track of my new cycle (it shortened by 7 days).
When we were TTC, I temped every morning for months because we were actually trying, and I wanted to know when I O'd.
