I'm currently using a Nikon coolpix P520 but i am not loving it these days, no matter how much i fiddle with the settings i am consitantly getting blurry photos of DS (hello active one year old!)
What do you own? Do you love it? Hows the shutter speed can you capture "active" movements of LO without blurr?

Bumping, because my camera broke. I had a Sony RX100 and it perfectly captured E's action. Any other recommendations?

I have a Nikon D700, it's a full-frame DSLR. I have 3 fixed lenses and 2 zooms.

we have a sony rx100. pricey, but worth it for the fast shutter speed and burst mode--like you, this feature was most important to me because LO keeps moving. even so, i have to admit that i have to take at least 10 pics of him to get 1 or 2 decent ones. still, i really really like it.
didn't want a DSLR because of the cost, learning curve, and bulkiness/weight.

@edelweiss: Yup, all the same reasons I loved mine. 
For some reason the lens won't come out all the way and it shuts itself down.

I have the Sony NEX6. It has all the features of a DSLR but it is a lot smaller. I am still learning how to use it in other modes, but it takes great pictures in automatic! They are almost never blurry and I have a very active 1 year old as well

@dc yoga bee: Oh nice!!! we haven't played around with it too much yet, just taking pictures of our dogs of course, but the ones that we've taken so far have been amazing. It came with an instructional DVD, and we have been watching that trying to learn all of the techniques. I think it will all be trial and error though!

@MrsHansen82: Mainly a point and shoot for the smaller camera body size and convenience. I ended up going for the Sony DSC-RX 100 II because it's a mirrorless w/ a much larger sensor for low light. My birthday is coming up and my mom and sister offered to help defray the cost, so that was huge.

I just upgraded to a Canon 6D. I have been shooting with my Rebel T2i with a Sigma 30 combo for close to 3 years now
