My LO is just about 1 and has a nasty cold. Flemmy cough, boogers everywhere, can't breathe. Nights are horrendous. We were up from 1-4 last night. Nothing works! And to top it off, I'm solo parenting till Friday 
and I'm sick too! Any tips?! Please!
Is there any cold medicine I can give a baby?

I used a humidifier, and baby vicks on DS's feet and chest and that usually seemed to help.

@wrkbrk: I did Motrin last night actually and that's what got her to finally fall back asleep! I will probably try that again tonight too

We find raising one end of the crib (the head end) a couple of inches helps with the cough.

@Raspberry: tried that, but she was so squirmy that she always ends up at the bottom, and she never crawls back up to the raised part!

I swear by saline (the kind in an aerosol can works much better than the nasal spray squeeze container for us) and then Nose Frida right before bed (and before nursing/bottles as my kids can't suck well when they are stuffed up).

I suck out her nose before bed, turn on humidifier, add essential oil (make sure it's kid safe), rub baby vicks on, elevate head.

Warm bath, suction the nose (I like the Baby Comfy nose), Motrin, and humidifier. Hope LO feels better soon.

I just went through the this and used saline and the nose sucker before nursing and before bed and it helped a lot. And I tried to hold her for some naps to keep her elevated and her mucus draining. The saline was really key for me to help her nurse.

We did the nose sucker, lots of cuddling and holding for naps, and nursing for fluids, and before naps and bed I used aleva soothing chest rub.
I'd elevate the bed/mattress seeing how old your babe is.

Um, ok, how is everyone actually doing the nose sucking? My 10 month old has his first cold as well and I've tried the nosefrida over and over but he acts like I'm trying to kill him and I haven't even gotten it anywhere near his nose yet. It's all I can do to try and wipe his nose, much less suction it?

Make sure your LO drinks more, whether nursing or from a cup/bottle. The NoseFrida works pretty well... although I have to hold my kid down to use it

@Jennibenni: it's pretty much DD screaming bloody murder when I try to suck out the snot. I ended up giving up tonight.
So tonight I have her mattress elevated, humidifier is on, I put baby Vicks on her chest and back, along with Frankincense essential oil on her feet (diluted and it helps with breathing support) and Motrin right before bed. Wish me luck!

@Mama Bird: this is what I'm struggling with. She has no interest in water. I have been nursing her more frequently though. Should I tell her babysitter tomorrow to give her an extra bottle?

@Jennibenni: My daughter hated the Nose Frida. Sometime's it's the only thing that works. I usually get my husband to help me hold her down. Now that she's older, he lets her watch a song or two on YouTube while he uses the bulb syringe.
