My MIL was playing with my 3 month old LO today and told her that she wants her to wear a white wedding dress in the future. I guess she still isn't over my ivory dress...lol!

Mine was ivory too. I think it looked better than white with my complexion and I never really thought twice about the "pure white" aspect of wedding dresses.

@autumnlove: haha oh wow that's funny! My dress was white, but if DD wants an ivory dress I'd be okay with that

Wow, that would hurt my feelings! My dress was ivory but I don't think anyone looked at it and saw it as anything other than a traditional white wedding dress. Honestly, many of the styles of wedding dresses these days don't look great in stark white. My dress was lace with some beading and I think it would have looked kind of cheap in white.

I wore ivory as well. It looked better with my auburn hair and fair skin.

Mine was ivory, too. It just looked better against my skin than white. My daughter can wear green if she wants! I don't care--I originally wanted a purple dress but didn't want to freak my family out too much.

Mine was ivory too. White just isn't that flattering for so many skin types. Ivory looked much better on me.

Mine was Magie Sottero 'light gold'. It's actually a rich cream colour and was really pretty, I think. Clearly your MIL would have been horrified! Lol.
I think this whole ivory vs white thing is stupid. Ivory, cream, white, whatever, it's all the same! Just some shades look better on different people. When I hear people say they didn't wear white I am always thinking that they wore red or blue or something, not ivory!

Ivory, because I'm a red head and have fair skin and thought that I looked better in it.

I hope you responded by saying that you want to raise her to be able to pick whatever dress she wants without feeling pressure from people that's been married decades past
My dress was a creamy beige.

Aw, Lol. Poor lo being pressured into getting married and wearing a white dress already!
Mine was white but not stark white. The color went great with my complexion.

Mine wasn't stark white, but it wasn't ivory either.. I'd say a slightly off white?

A very dark ivory. My mil and mom helped me pick it out, but they're not traditional.

Mine was ivory. I think the color of the dress should be more about a color that compliments an individual's skin tone rather than what is "traditional".

Mine was ivory. Loved it! The beading was platinum colored, and just didn't look as "soft" on the white sample.

mine was "diamond white", which wasn't white white...but wasn't ivory either. Looking back on the wedding pictures, I would have been happy with ivory too.
Is that really an issue anymore - pure white dress vs ivory dress? I didn't even know this.

Ivory/diamond white, I'm super pale and any true whites would have washed me out.

My dress was a ivory too! I loved it and the color just went better with my skin tone.
Bummer about you MIL's comment - that's not very nice to say.

Mine was ivory but not because I didn't feel I couldn't wear a white dress, it just looked nice. I honestly don't think it makes a difference anymore.

Oh my goodness she is still holding that over you? Haha I wore a very light blue wedding gown! I loved it! I have blonde hair and blue eyes and look awful in white and ivory! My husband was not expecting it and in the video of our wedding you can see him gasp and say WOW! Haha I got it at a consignment shop for a few hundred! Such a steal!

I went with white white, I figured I would go for it since I never wear white- I'm too messy. It had frosting and coffee all over it by the time the night was over.

Mine was ivory, it was lace, and I preferred the look of ivory lace over white.

I think mine was called "light ivory" or something. So, no, not pure white. And any future daughters we have will be allowed to wear whatever she wants.

why is your mom still upset about ivory? Ivory *IS* white, it's just a shade of white!
I showed my husband a bunch of dress colors when he said "it better be white" and he said the ivory ones counted as white.
Oh, mothers. And mother's in law. They're the only ones who can really get upset about something so little.

Mine was technically ivory although you couldn't tell unless it was next to something true white. White just didn't look right on my olive skintone.

Mine was ivory as well, but looked white unless I was up against something that was bright white. I tried on a white wedding gown, but it washed me out.

Mine was ivory....silk satin - oh how I loved it : )

Ivory! I wanted white, but my dream dress only came in Ivory. It was a small sacrifice but totally worth it
