I love a bargain, and I typically don't mind a little extra effort to save money.

We live in a well-to-do suburb, and the prices at our local vet's office reflect this. The vet told us that the shih tzu we adopted from my grandma needed to have its teeth cleaned, and then presented an estimate of $600.00. Eek!

I balked at that price, so I called the rural vet my dad uses in my hometown. The price? $85 for the same exact thing! So yesterday morning I packed up the dog and we left the house at 5:00 AM to be at the rural vet before 8:00 AM. I had to hang out in town all day, and then drive home in the evening, but it was totally worth it to save $500.00 It's kind of like going overseas for plastic surgery, without the glamor!
