Next cycle I will start Clomid... I just picked it up and my Rx says to take on days 5-9. But when I spoke with my Doctor's office last week, they told me to start it on day 3. I'm waiting for them to call me back and clarify, but in the meantime, I'm curious - if you've taken Clomid in the past, what CD did you start?
Does it really matter? Is there any difference in starting on 3 vs 5?

I took it 3-7. I ovulated late on it; I would've ovulated later had I started it on day 5

Finally got a call back from one of the nurses and she said it "didn't really matter" but the doctor preferred to have people start on day 5.
Since I already ovulate "late" (if at all some months), I'll be curious to see if it makes it later or the same... only time will tell I guess!

Supposedly, if you start on CD5 it helps to bring about a stronger ovulation for 1 follicle. Starting on CD3 can mature multiple slightly less strong follicles. So you have a better chance at having more eggs starting on CD3 (ie more chance of multiples) but possibly a better egg, and therefore more likely to get pregnant at all.

Interesting! I didn't know that. I have a small number of follicles, so I wonder if that was the reason for me starting earlier. Or if that's just SOP for my OB

I took mine starting on Day 5... I think the nurse said something about the lining on my cervical wall...?

I did 4-8. It does really matter what day you take it, I'm surprised that your doctor didn't give you specific instructions. If you don't ovulate this cycle, I'd go back and ask what day specifically to start and why they chose that day.

@sarac: They did give me instructions; it was just different than what was on the prescription when I picked it up. It's very possible that I just mis-heard my doctor the first time, but I called today to clarify (and it was the nurse who said there wasn't much of a difference between starting on day 3 vs day 5).
Was just curious what others' experiences were!

@alie: Oh, I see now. Well, it's likely to not matter terribly. But if you don't ovulate, I'd nail it down. I personally did not ovulate on 50mg, but did every time on 100mg, so if you don't this first time, try not to stress too much.
