...I think I might have asked HB this last year too, haha.
I can never think of anything!! Other than baking cupcakes and going out to dinner.

DH's last birthday was less than a month after LO was born. Poor guy. I was a mess still, nobody was sleeping, etc. I baked him a cake, but it wasn't very good. And I got him some kind of present, but nothing super special. We were supposed to go out to a movie too, but it just didn't happen. #birthdayfail

For DHs birthday we had a party at home and invited a bunch og people over to play video games and drink.
I made him a cheesecake.

Last year was a BIG one so I rented a Ferrari for the day (something he's always wanted to do but never actually done). Usually, I just get a bunch of his friends together and go out to dinner or have a dinner party at our house.

We went to his first powerlifting competition. I paid all the costs relating to that as his gift & we went to a nice dinner.

Oh gosh. I was 39 weeks pregnant and I can't remember!
For my birthday, he planned a date he knew I would like (Broadway show, dinner, hotel, and brunch the next morning.) I am clearly a wife fail.

Nothing! LO had pneumonia and I had a cold....maybe we can celebrate this year! ETA that was 2 years ago...hahaha. We went out for dinner last year!

I was less than 2 months away from my due date so ordered a steak & lobster dinner to go and set it up fancy ready for DH after work at home. I got him a cheesecake bday cake from Cheesecake Factory.

DH's birthday was this past Monday. We had both of our sets of parents over for dinner on Saturday (I made pulled pork, mac n cheese, baked beans, and coleslaw) and to play board games. His parents spent the night and took us out to breakfast Sunday.
Monday we were both kind of busy, so I gave him his gift in the morning. I got him a new Fossil wallet because he desperately needed one. That night I served him dinner and put a candle in a leftover piece of cheesecake. Kind of lame, but, oh well!!

We went out to his favorite gastropub one night and saw the Braves at Turner Field and then a fancy, fancy steakhouse the next night. I also surprised him with an overnight stay in the city. (I had to circle the block a few times to find the entrance. Magical.)
My birthday is this Friday. He's cooking something...but I have no idea!

Took him to a famous steakhouse! We were so busy w/ renovating our new home and wedding planning we didn't do anything "big". The year before I got him tickets to a Knicks game @ MSG.
This year will be big! I scheduled our belated honeymoon to fall on his birthday so he can be on vacation. I plan on surprising him with a deep sea fishing trip the day of!

Had a baby LO was born 10 days before his birthday, so both of us were sleep deprived and infatuated with the new baby. His parents came over and brought dinner and I made his favorite cookies.

I seriously am having trouble remembering....
Ummm. Oh! We went to Disneyland for both of our birthdays combined. On his actually birthday day j made his favorite dinner and dessert.

@snowjewelz: so fun!!!
Okay, fancy steakhouse is a must...I have no energy lately to cook.

We had a little party with cake and sweets, just family and some cousins too.

It is tomorrow! So R is going to make him a card. I am going to make him a cake. I have never made it before but it is his favorite so wish me luck. He won't be home till like 11 so we will celebrate in Friday. Grilling steaks since that is his favorite.

DD was six weeks old and I, in a moment of postpartum insanity, thought it would be a good idea to invite his entire (big) family over for a party. This basically led to DH doing all the work to cook, clean etc., as I was so busy constantly nursing the baby. I felt kind of terrible about it.

@HLK208: we aren't this year. Years past I do running stuff, skiing stuff, or anything left from his Christmas list. What about and IOU for a Seahawks Super bowl Champs shirt. Postive thinking for you!

No gifts for us! We like to go out for dinner or have more of an "experience" than give gifts if that makes sense. My best gift to him was a night in NYC, we had dinner at a ninja themed restaurant (YUP, I deserve a medal) and just hung around the city for a weekend! Every birthday since has been a huge let down lol

We actually were laying on a beach in the Dominican Republic! It just happened that we took a trip over his birthday...actually he didn't realize his birthday would fall during the trip when we first booked it, haha! It was our last pre-kids hurrah...we got pregnant the next month!
I think I gave him a Nintendo 3DS to play during the trip. But his parents helped pay for that gift since it's a lot more than we usually spend on birthday gifts!

Last year we went to a football game the week before so that was his present (it was out of state.) On his actual birthday we went out to eat at a Brazillian steakhouse & I got him a small gift.

@Smurfette: hahaha! Dang it, I should have just bought those football game tickets, huh? It would have made my life easier

@petunia354: haha! You're awesome! I did BIG things for each birthday before we were married but now I'm kind of burnt out!! I have two (soon to be three) other birthdays to plan each year too!

We had plans to go out for dinner 2 weeks before his birthday b/c our daycare did a date night once a month. Aaaaaaand I got the stomach flu. So we probably finally went out a month later. To be fair, he got sick on my birthday too. It was a bad year for birthdays in our house.

We went to Maui for the weekend and stayed at the grand wailea...(Where they filmed "just go with it")

We just ate out and got him a cake. My DH's not big on celebrating his bday.

@HLK208: Girl you are saint. I vote you take him to dinner and call it a day

He brought home sushi takeout. My birthday is a few days prior and LO was two months and we went to the zoo and he made us amazing bacon blue cheeseburgers.

He took the day off work and we went out to lunch at a local place he'd been dying to take me, then we went and picked up his childhood fav cake which he hadn't had in like a decade (Love Po. #9 ice cream cake from duncan donuts) and then I think we just went home and watched movies or something? I can't remember what I got him for his birthday but I'm sure we opened whatever that was haha.

Tickets to a Giants game for his 30th this past year...hard to top that for this year.

A birthday party at a local minor league ball game. He got to throw the first pitch (with DD and I on the field), had his name in lights and had the whole stadium sing to him during the 7th inning stretch. We all got "free" ball caps and he got an autographed ball and shirt as part of the package. I am absolutely positive it was a package designed for kids, not 30 yr olds.
pomegranate / 3779 posts
We went to lunch. LO was three weeks old and that was about all I could handle.

I got him a bunch of things from a cycling brand he's into. And I think I did a really short photoshoot with the kids and framed one of the photos.

ummm I think it must have been super low key last year because I don't remember!!
His birthday is in March, not sure what we're doing?? My mom bought us tickets to the orchestra, maybe we'll go then!

I took DH to a spy exhibit at the Franklin Institute, then we went to this hot dog place that has all of these crazy types of hot dogs.

@rattles: that sounds awesome!! Seriously!
I was working in a different city at the time so I ordered his favorite pizza and paid for it to be delivered. That weekend I made him brownies and we might have gone to a movie...? It's coming up in march and I really need to come up with something. We don't usually get gifts though, tight budget and he's a terrible gift buyer
