~$100k . . . including law school. I only took out loans for LS!

I would say tuition and books was probably ~$12000. I had gov't loans of $21,000 when I was done (included living expenses). So happy those are paid off!

@Mrs. Pen: I think I did all right . . . I should add that I had a partial scholarship for LS, and that I almost completed a masters program in between undergrad and LS. I worked a lot. I had 3 jobs while I went to school full time for several months, and then scaled it back to 2 jobs. And my parents helped me too . . . although not after undergrad!

It took me 6 years to get my bachelors b/c I had to transfer colleges. Anyways, it was probably around $40,000 in tuition and books. I only took out one small loan of around $3,500. I was EXTREMELY lucky in that my parents and grandma paid for my schooling.

@mrskc: 529 Plan FTW! That is exactly why we are maxing out our contribution . . . I want her to be able to go anywhere!

My undergrad was maybe around 15K a year? Maybe less. The return on investment was high, at least! I do know that it says it is 23K a year now...but that is almost 10 years after the fact.

My masters cost $23,942.12, including all GRE and GMAT testing, application fees, transcript fees, books, and course credits (I can see the total amount on my profile at work). It was through NCSU and company funded. Very affordable distance education program, as far as masters go!

I'm big on ROI as far as education goes

@MsLipGloss: I seriously need to get one started for LO. I would love to pay for most of our kids schooling. It was so nice to be able to start making money and not have to pay off a bunch of student loan debt.

@yellowbird: Wow! Although can I just say that I am jealous?! I (think!) I would have loved to be a dentist!

@MsLipGloss: it's a pretty nice job! Im applying for loan repayment through my state, so hopefully my loans will all be gone in about 5 years.

I'm not sure what it would have cost without grants and scholarships. Between the Pell, Cap, KEES, and scholarship money, I only had to pay $800 ($400 a year for two years) out of pocket for my education, excluding book costs. I went to a state school, so I paid in-state tuition and it wasn't that bad, I think at the most it was $2500 per semester.

Undergrad, in state; approx $25,000, paid for with scholarships.

Grad (took me 3 1/2 years because I had to work) : $30,000. I came out with $20,000 in loans but it is totally worth it for the increase in income my new career gives me.

By the time I went to grad school we had a mortgage and expenses that I couldn't keep up with, even while working full time, hence the loans. I also needed to work for our health insurance. But in retrospect it may have been better to work less and graduate sooner.

@mrskc: I am on the fence whether to pay for LO's school or give her a large lump sum when she is done to start her post grad life. My thinking is that loans for school are easy to come by but good loans for houses/cars/ maternity leave- not so much! Since you did have your school paid for, what do you think?

About 100k for undergrad (private), paid for by my parents. I think about 20k for grad school (public) paid for by job.

College was around $20K, 1 year of law school was $30K (biggest waste of money ever)... DH And I combined have about $70K in student loans that we're aggressively paying off.

I am not sure of what a year at my undergrad school cost when I went, but I think it was around $35 k per year, including room and board.

So, if I use that figure, 140,000. I had loans of about $17,000 when I graduated.

My masters was partially funded by my employer, I know I paid about $5,000 out of pocket, but I can not for the life of me recall the cost for tuition. It was def. around $50,000.

I am also big on ROI. The same undergrad education costs about $250,000 now and I don't really think it's worth it, honestly.

@mrs.pen-we are, but in general all engineers are in fairly high demand! It just sucks because going to MIT would have been great. Just not really financially worth it in the long run. Reminds me, i had a friend apply to Yale. Just so she could say she got accepted. Could NOT afford it.

@mslipgloss, totally. It's a lesson I wish nobody had to learn, though. They really should talk to high schoolers about these things BEFORE they end up in financial straits over it. It's just...you know, if my kid wants to study English/History/etc, I want to encourage her love of learning. But I don't want her drowning in the real world, either, and wishing she had a practical degree to fall back on, because the only job she can get pays $9 an hour

Around $30k for a bachelor of commerce (4 years) in Ontario.

ETA: my mom paid my tuition. I paid for books/parking etc, but she paid for all classes so I had no debt. Very lucky. DHs parents did the same.

My undergrad was about $25,000 for tuition at a public university, which my parents paid. Grad school (also public) was about $70,000 just for tuition -- I'm still paying off those loans. Although I'm sometimes bitter about how much my education cost, I'm very thankful for the opportunity to have gone to such great schools and I definitely wouldn't be where I am today without it.
