I'm hoping all you experienced mommies can help! I am going to meet a friends new baby this weekend, and want to bring the parents something special. It's not a "new" baby, as she is now about two months old. I'm pretty lost, any suggestions?? What do first time parents want/need at this point?

@Panda247: My LO is 12 weeks. I think around this age a meal is always appreciated! Anything homemade or baked that I don't have time for. You could also offer to stop at the store for them (if you're passing a target or similar store on your way) and see if there's anything you can pick up.

Even at 2 months old its so so nice to get food...and dessert is always a bonus! If you want to get the baby something like an outfit I would get something in a larger size that should be season appropriate.

Food. Gift certificates for a house cleaner if she won't be offended. And offer to pick up coffee or snacks or whatever at the store on your way over. Diapers.

Food, always food, something easy to eat/reheat etc. And wine, if they drink at all! A glass here and there in the early days felt so indulgent

Food! People tend to bring dinner, I appreciated it SO much when people brought breakfast items!!
I had tons of sweet friends bring all kinds of things. Eye cream (I thought this was so clever!), Starbucks, gift cards, pizza delivered.

Haha-- yes, food! Muffins or cookies are nice and easy, lunch stuff...
And if you want to get an outfit, don't even bother worrying about seasons-- get something that is always appropriate like footed sleepers. Then the baby can wear it whenever it fits, no worries about the weather. Comfy not fussy.

Yeah, my doula brought muffins from Dunkin Donuts when she came to visit me about 6 weeks PP. They were awesome, I just couldn't get enough food/baked goods in those first weeks/months!

I agree with PPs about breakfast! I had a friend who brought frozen breakfast burritos and a loaf of banana bread. We were in such a fog we didn't even realize how many breakfasts we had missed!
Other things that stood out:
-fruit & veggie trays (just the pre-packaged store versions were great for a healthy snack you could grab w/baby in one hand)
-dessert. One friend brought an entire boston creme pie. You bet your ass I are the shiz outta that thing! It was soooooo good
-food of any kind. Seriously. There's no energy to cook anything decent. And I always appreciated the food in throw away containers so I didn't have to stress about returning dishes.
-an offer to sit with baby so the mom can nap or shower. I always felt like I had to entertain people, just relaxing on my own felt like a vacation!You're a sweet friend for asking!

Thank you all so much for these suggestions! I had heard food before, but kind of blew it off. I cook a lot, so I just figured that would be a gift they obligatorily took and stuck in the fridge. It seems the consensus it it will be much appreciated!
I know the baby is an extremely fussy sleeper, so I'm probably going to make some things that can be quick to heat up and hand-held to help mom.

Someone brought us a nice basket of "grown ip" foods I didn't eat while pregnant - fancy cheeses, charcuterie, bottle of wine - it was fantastic!

I agree with food!! Of all the things people brought the food was the best and most needed!

Food. I like PinkElephant's idea to bring food that the mom couldn't eat while pregnant but could eat if breastfeeding.
