ooooh! The vote is neck and neck. I used to live in Texas, where these were called suckers. And now I live in NJ, where they say lollipops and think I'm crazy when I say suckers.
To me, lollipops are the giant, swirled, coiled-rope candies-on-a-stick like this:

@Anagram: I think sucker is a south/midwest term because people call them suckers here and I call them lollipops and it usually gets me a comment on where I am from...

lollipop. It's definitely a regional thing though, like soda and pop. I'm in NYC.

@Anagram: those are suckers! That pic is a lollipop. Definitely a difference My family is Midwestern.

@Anagram: I agree with you! Lived in MI all my life, and to me lollipops are huge, colorful and have a spirally design. I love hearing people on HB refer to "suckers" as "lollipops"--it's much more fun!!

I use both terms, but that particular candy I would call a sucker. Whereas something big and round (think, tootsie-pop) I would call a lollipop.

Depends where I am or who I'm talking to!
I grew up with Suckers. Midwest thing, I guess. I'll refer to them that way with DH or our families. Same with bubbler Everyone else who will look at me funny gets lollipop.

I have heard of them being referred to as suckers but I always say lollipop! Suckers to me can be any candy, not just ones with sticks?

Typically lollipop, but the occasional sucker is thrown in there. So I guess we do both!

@Anagram: Ditto on your explanation. The first pic - sucker, The round thing - lollipop

@Anagram: I've lived in Texas my whole life and still say lollipop! But when I think about it, everyone else usually says sucker...guess I'm the odd man out around here! lol

Same as @Anagram. I'm from TN. It's interesting that so many different areas are saying suckers, but the poll is leaning towards lollipop. I wonder if it's because the demographic for HB seems to be more northern. Or if the non-Americans are affecting it.

It's funny to me that people would use the term sucker, which around here isn't such a nice thing. And has a connotation you might not want used around children . But it's even funnier that so many people need to reference this candy so often. I can't remember the last time I had a lollipop or talked about one!

@ShootingStar: I work with kids, so it comes up a surprising amount. Plus, I'm pregnant and spend most of the first trimester with a preggie pop in my mouth.
