DD is a little over 2 weeks old and starting to be awake for longer but I don't really know what to do with her! We talk to her, sing sometimes snd I wave around a rattle to get her attention. We also do a lil tummy time here & there. Is it too early for the playmat? Am I supposed to do anything else to entertain her or help her develop? Or it's ok to just let her stare into space sometimes?

I used to read out loud all the time to my DD when she was a newborn. It was nice because I could just read whatever I wanted since she had no clue what I was saying anyway. I don't think there's anything wrong with just letting babies hang out and take everything in sometimes, they'll let you know if it's not working for them!

It's totally okay to let them just hang out! I would just talk to her. Mostly hold her, turn on her mobile for her or let her hang out in her swing. Pretty low key. Don't stress about it. Just hanging out is perfectly fine!

Definitely ok to let her hang out. They are getting a lot of stimulation just from looking around at this age because everything they see is new! J seems to enjoy being on his play may sone times so we've been doing some of that.

I do clean up, eat, use the bathroom. LOL at that age they can barely see in front of them so totally OK to let them blank off into space.

At that age, I would just narrate whatever we were doing, sing and speak directly to him. You might start getting some little smiles soon

As a nanny I felt like I had to do *something* so I'd read whatever I was currently reading out loud to them. I'll probably do the same for my own, but it's good for them to be able to just chill and start to notice what's around them and absorb things at their own pace.

At that age people's faces are stimulating enough for them! I would just talk to him, listen to music etc.

I tried to lay in bed with them for a bit each day while they were awake and make different cooing sounds and play with their little fingers and toes and ears and nose and just play googly eyes. They can't do much but they are interested in touch and sound and of course mamas face.

It's okay at that age to do "nothing". I talked to LO a lot and narrated what I was doing and sometimes we listened to music or I put her on the play mat. But if she was content, I used that time for cleaning, laundry, etc. or even just getting a moment of peace watching tv or getting internet time.

I didn't do anything purposefully to stimulate her. Life is stinulating enough. I just watched tv or wore her around the house while I did errands.

Literally nothing, and I really suggest doing the same. I snuggled her, I nursed her, I smooched her, and then I put her down next to me or on the floor, and read a book, or watched tv, or whatever. We're all encouraged to provide stimulation and education and all of that, from birth, and I find it a little nuts! A newborn baby is learning to focus her eyes - that's about where they are, so just looking at the world around them is exciting enough.

I worried about this in the beginning but realised she did better when DH and I did stuff on the weekend and she came along for the ride (in the ergo). Honestly I think it's fine just to baby wear and go about your normal day...they get plenty of stimulation that way and you get things done

You can really drive yourself crazy trying to think of things to do, so if you want to, I think Babycenter has emails that come out with ideas on a weekly basis.
I don't remember doing much of anything until about 2 months of age.

Survive? Ha! Seriously, I didn't leave my recliner for the first 3 weeks because I was in a lot of pain from my c-section. It was just survival at that point! But honestly, your baby will be stimulated enough looking at you
