This just occurred to me, since DS is starting to sit up in (and is therefore outgrowing) his bouncer... Do you use some kind of seat? Or a mat on the floor and baby-proof your bathroom?

I usually shower at night after he's gone to bed but we have a door jumper and I hang that in the bathroom doorway if I need to do hair/makeup.

I generally used the pack and play in our room with DD1 as the main bathroom we use is attached to the master bedroom.

I think when DS was that age I showered while he was still asleep. Now that he's mobile (and almost always awake) he hangs out in the bathroom with me, I have the cabinets and toilets locked so the worst he does is unravel the toilet roll. He usually likes to watch / play with the water at the end of the shower.

I would wait until nap/bedtime or put them in their crib with some safe toys.

I shower after DH leaves to drive her to daycare.
When I'm at home with her all day, I wait for her morning nap and shower then. The few times (since she's been old enough to move around - I used to just put her in a RnP or the swing) when I have needed to shower while she was awake, I strapped her into a bouncer in the bathroom. I imagine the next step will be a PnP.

I put the high chair in the doorway. I give her playdough/crayons. When she was younger, I'd give her toys.

At that age she was in the pnp but I never took a shower when I was alone with her.

My son used to like that doorway bouncy thing that I would sometimes hook up while showering. Otherwise it was during nap.

Shower during nap. If I needed to just use the bathrooms r a few minutes I left her someplace safe (middle of the rug in the mostly baby proofed living room usually or in some containment device (jumperoo, play yard, high chair) as she got older and more mobile.

So...these last couple of months of being able to take a "leisurely" bath or hot shower while keeping an eye on the kid are coming to a close.

I just let her play in her crib. Nowadays, DH gets up with her and gets her day started while I shower, and then we switch places. You'll figure it out! It doesn't necessarily mean you have to give up your relaxing morning shower!

@FliegepilzHut: I preferred to wait until she was napping just so it could be leisurely! I could sometimes rush and squeeze one in somehow but if waited for nap it was MY time.

I heard that people just put their kid in a laundry basket with toys in front of the shower. I'm planning to do that when DD is older.

I'd just baby proof and put her on a mat in the hallway right outside. About to do that now that mine is about to start crawling.
grapefruit / 4418 posts
I just gave her some books or toys on a towel. Now at 23 months she loves rearranging my
tOilet paper, tampons, panty liners and soap in my vanity lol.

DS is 21 mo...he sits in his exersaucer and eats snacks and plays on the iPad while I shower/get ready. That way I can nap when he naps

I usually shower when DH is home, but if I'm alone with DD I put her in this chair. I also use it in the kitchen when I'm cooking.

ETA: I think my DD is younger than your LO. I hope she still likes her chair as she gets older.

I just let him play with his toys and toilet paper rolls. The master bath and bedroom are child-proofed, but he doesn't usually even leave the bathroom. Especially if I am talking to him. I will open the shower door occasionally and that is enough for him to crawl over and put his hands on the glass where the water hits. When he was your LO's age I would put him in his crib and he would be okay for a minute but would be screaming half way through the shower, which was always super short.

I usually shower at night after she is in bed. But if I want to shower during the day, I just set her on the bathroom floor with a couple of toys. I can see her through the glass wall of the shower to make sure she doesn't get into any trouble. And she just sits there and has fun!

Depends on her mood and agreeableness, but crib with toys, baby bjorn bouncer, or just sat her in the bathroom. I need to shower every day in the morning. No compromise on this one. So one way or another it gets done

I put him in the PnP with some toys. Maybe a bottle too. Our bathroom is dangerous - we have a walk in shower where the door swings both ways and can't be secured.

one thing that worked really well for me, because kiddo LOVED water, was to put her in her Bumbo chair on the shower floor. She got misted a little with the water, and I could shower. Otherwise I put a playmat down on the bathroom floor and made sure everything was baby proof.

@Mrs. Oatmeal: DD (7.5 months) has taken a couple "big girl" showers with me too where I just sit her in our tiled shower and wash her when I'm done washing myself.

I was never able to shower or take a bath while he was awake. Kudos to you! I waited till he was asleep, either nap or night time.
But at that age if I needed to use the bathroom or do something like put on makeup I put him in the jumperoo, exersaucer, pack 'n play, or crib. When he could REALLY sit well unassisted but couldn't yet move, just sat him on the floor with toys.

My wee guy (9mo) is in either the Exersaucer, jolly jumper or playpen.

@Mrs.KMM: even now at 2 1/2, K often asks to get in the shower! It's easier now that she can stand up herself.

He hangs out on the bathroom floor with a couple toys. I'm pretty quick

When he was really small he just sat/slept in his rock n play in our room while I showered.
Now he has a smoothie while watching a show.

DH does morning duties at our house and at that age, DS was in the exersaucer while DH showered/got dressed. We had both an exersaucer and a jumparoo (both gifts) so the exersaucer lived in our master bed/bath and the jumparoo was in our living room/kitchen. Once he started walking, he now has free reign of the master bedroom/bathroom and usually just "reads" books.

I just let him hang out in the bathroom with the door closed and keep an eye on him. Our shower curtain has a transparent liner, so I just drape the actual curtain over the rod and then it's easy to see what he is doing. The drawers and cabinet in the bathroom are baby proofed.
Usually if I talk to him or sing songs he will stay engaged and not cause trouble. Now that he can walk sometimes he will flush the toilet or mess stuff he's not supposed to.
Now at 22mo, I often just strip him down, put a rubber mat on the floor of the shower, and let him play in the spray while I shower. I can soap him up if necessary too. And then he is happy to keep playing in the water while I dry off etc.

@FliegepilzHut: they have free reign of the bathroom - we have glass doors in the shower so we can see them. All other doors are closed and anything dangerous is out of reach.

I usually wait until nap time, but mostly because I workout during nap time and then shower right after. If I have to shower while DD is awake, I usually just put some toys on the floor in the bathroom and let her have free reign. We have glass shower doors so I can see what's going on. There are no chemicals or anything dangerous within reach in our bathroom. The I usually just watch her play while I shower.

my bathroom is so small and i was on my own in the am I would put her exersaucer in the bathroom door way and let her play
GOLD / papaya / 10166 posts
If I couldn't shower while she was napping, then I just closed all the doors in the bathroom so she couldn't get out and put a blanket on the floor with some toys. She could see me at all times.
pear / 1718 posts
I either do it while she's sleeping or I make it super fast and let her go crazy in our (baby proofed) bathroom. Now that she can open the garbage and spin the TP, its more difficult...
