I guess what surprised me is it gives me a sense of purpose. I feel more motivated and organized now that I have this sweet little person to care for. I just love being with her. I love seeing DH as a Dad since he has wanted a child for a long time. It's all pretty great. Lately her talking and learning has been awesome.

Seeing joy and excitement in my DD's eyes. There's really nothing better in my books.

So many good answers already! It's the best feeling knowing you're the world to them. Being a parent has made me a better person, and helped keep perspective on so many things. The hugs, kisses, smiles, laughs, watching my husband care for them, and the joy in making them happy is indescribable.

I think life kind of comes full circle when you finally have children. I'm really satisfied with what I was able to do/see/learn/experience before having children, but having them really shows you what life is all about. It's amazing to have and experience unconditional love for these little people who deprive you of sleep for months on end or make you crazy some days. For me, the most satisfying thing has been watching them transform from little blobs into real people who have interesting thoughts and ideas and say such funny things.

Yesterday we had a terrible 2 hour bedtime and I was so angry and frustrated. And then LO finally fell asleep on our bed and she was so beautiful and peaceful and I just lay there and watched her for a while. With parenting you can go from the lowest lows to the highest highs in just a moment. And I love that, that she can bring me out of any funk just like that (and not always by sleeping ). It is absolutely amazing watching her become a little person, I can't believe she was just a blob basically 12 months ago and now she's walking around the yard exploring, dancing, answering her pretend phone and saying hi.

I love to see DS learn and he helps put life into better perspective for me. When you only want the best for them it helps to really evaluate what's important and what's not. For me, it also helps me to take better care of myself. Being a mom is hard work and can get crazy really quickly. You have to make sure you are in a good place yourself if you want to be a a functioning mom.

Watching the Genesis of a person with their own unique thought processes and inclinations and having the privilege to help shape and mold all that into something good and useful by giving him the security and structure and foundation and unconditional love he needs to springboard into the life he's meant to live with confidence. My son is so strange and unique and funny, DH and I marvel everyday about what a little person he is becoming and how there's just no one else like him. A bit sentimental here as I'm going in for C-section for DS2 in a few hours!

Getting to know and spend all this time with such an amazing person.
An entirely new and profound experience of love.
Feeling a sense of completion in my life.
The joy, laughter, silliness and play.
I really enjoy the tasks of motherhood, too. They feel like such an expression of love to me: changing diapers, making her bed, folding her laundry.....I mean, sure they sometimes feel like chores by in the bigger more general sense I really enjoy being able to do things for my family.

I love being a parent. My husband and I were talking about this recently- we are privileged enough to be able to choose to have a lot of kids. We could have fewer kids and take really nice vacations or drive luxury vehicles, but our priority is having a big family. It brings us greater joy, love, peace, laughter than anything else we could buy!

So many things. Definitely Christmas every morning. DH and I "fight" about who gets to wake her up on weekday mornings.

as my sons are in very different stages of life:

for both- the knowledge that I am gifted the experience of guiding another person through life, sharing what I know and learning in turn from them. They bring out the best in me.

LO1- the laughter, imagination, extended stories about walking trees and pirates, spontaneous dance parties, when he holds my hand and tells me I'm the best mama a boy could ever ask for

LO2- the snuggles, and smiles, and when I see him after work his whole body fills up with joy to see me

I'm lucky to be their mom

Unconditional love. They can be total beasts all day but when they fall asleep at night I just want to hold them and stare at them and for the day to begin again.

All the LOVE. Morning cuddles, bedtimes kisses, when he sits on my lap to read a book or play with him. I race home after work now and am so excited to pick him up everyday.

The giggles. OMG I just can't get enough of baby/toddler giggles. And now that I have two, just seeing the love between the two of them. It melts my heart thousands of times a day.

Everything to do with the way she interacts with me. How she points at me when she wants me to do something (like open a box or give her a specific food), or pulls my glasses off my face, or grabs my face and pokes my lips or my nose, or motions for me to pick her up. Or (best thing ever) when she crawls up onto my lap and just collapses into a huge hug around my neck with her head on my shoulder.
