For close friends and family I tell them that I can't even think about another one for 1.5 years as per doctor's orders, so they can talk to me again in October!

For all others I say, "When are you going to try for a baby (or another)?" That is usually met with silence and a change of subject.

I actually haven't had anyone ask me this yet. I'll probably just say not sure yet.

@mrsjazz: that's my line ;). Usually I just say "we're not sure, how about you?". So it doesn't sound too offensive

@Mrs. Jacks: It's a good line. Your way is definitely nicer It's just funny when my single friends who don't have kids ask me about the next baby and I turn the question on them and they look at me like I'm a unicorn.

I think it's a rude question to ask, regardless of the person asking.

- how do they know if you even want more children?
- what if you're already pregnant, but aren't ready to tell others?
- what if you struggle with infertility, and its a sensitive subject?

We are asked this question ALL THE TIME and we fall into the infertility category. We don't make our struggle public (I talk about it on HB, obviously, but not on Facebook or amongst our family outside of DH and my mom/sister) so.. It's a question I absolutely dread and find incredibly offensive.

I'm a pretty sarcastic person so I say something along the lines of "why are you so interested in my sex life?" Or "the next time I ovulate, you'll be te first person I call!"

I just tell them yes! I am pregnant right now and I get this question a lot about Baby 3. The question is always...will you try for a boy?

My sister's labor nurse asked her this DURING her unmedicated labor! I would think a labor nurse would know better!

I always say that we are so happy and enjoying our time that it isn't even a thought right now.

We are pretty sure we are done (99%) but don't really want to have to talk about it if we change our minds so I usually say' our family feels complete as it is, but who knows if that will change".

@mrsaudi: I am still pregnant and people still ask me this... I just say we are going to wait and see. I am scared to say anything else as we might take longer and I would hate to think of people analysing..

I just usually say we'll see. We do want more so it depends how they ask the question, if they ask if we want more I answer honestly, if they're asking for a timeline I just say we'll see. For some closer friends recently I explained that LO is still nursing so it's not possible right now.

Every day that LO gets older we get asked this more and more, I'm personally soooo sick of it! My FIL recently told me that I need to hurry up and finish having kids so I can hurry and go back to work already...

For our immediate family, honestly nothing shuts them up. For others what has worked is when I say, "My delivery was so complicated that if I have another baby anytime soon there's a strong chance I'll die." (Totally lying, but my doctor did strongly auggest that I give my body 2 years to heal really well.) People look like I slapped them and shut it after that. We have a couple of cousins around our age who have also asked us this, and I tell them, I've already had one, so maybe you should be next.
