I voted dislike him because I lean mostly Republican in my political beliefs (though liberal on social issues like abortion and gay marriage). But as a person he seems like a fine guy, so I certainly don't hate him. I think he's worked hard and done what he felt was best for the country, I just don't necessarily agree with many of his views, particularly fiscally.

I'm Meh, but that's pretty much how I feel about everyone in politics.

I'm meh on him -- I used to like him more but I've been increasingly disappointed as the years have gone by.

I like him, although I wish he'd been able to do more in his presidency. I don't think that is necessarily his fault though. I am from Illinois and saw him speak many times before he was president and that was amazing. He can move a room to tears with his words. Now Michelle?? Love that woman!

@twodoghouse: Same! Minus the seeing him speak. Would love the opportunity, though. And yeah, I kind of worship Michelle.

@twodoghouse: That's awesome! I'd love to see him speak. I did try to take a picture outside his house in Chicago but apparently that's frowned upon

I think you should have another option in the poll - I don't think about him or any other politician at all!

He's no Clinton, but I've been happy with him as President. Congress on the other hand...

I don't identify as totally Republican or totally Democrat, and I absolutely cannot stand him!

I like him and there are several things I personally admire about him.
I think it’s impressive what he’s accomplished given the opposition he’s faced.

I said "like." I really appreciate a lot of what he's done, there are just some things I wish he'd take a harder stance on. But then I know that can be hard, especially when he was still gunning for reelection. Gotta appeal to those moderates
I also saw him speak in person, back when he was a senator, and he definitely knows how to get a room full of people on their feet! I admire that, because I'm terrified of public speaking haha.

I like him, quite a few of his policies, and the people he picked to help him lead. As a liberal I wish he could have been able to carry out more of his plans for the country, but in politics neither side gets everything they want. Some of the opposition he faces borders on challenging his legitimacy as the presidency and that makes me sad for him and the country.

@Adira: Ditto!
I think he could have been an amazing president, but unfortunately, he has had to deal with a Republican House, and now a Republican Congress, who have made it crystal clear their sole objective in life is to oppose every single thing he tries to do. It's such a shame....
So yeah, I voted that I like Obama; Congress on the other hand, I despise. Absolutely despise.

As a Canadian and now australian citizen, I am incredibly jealous that Americans have a non-idiot in power. A person who seems able to speak competently and knows a bit about important issues. I don't believe the australian or Canadian pms are compassionate or intelligent in any way and it pains me to listen to them speak. Obama on the other hand, though I don't always agree with his decisions, seems like he knows what's up and is open minded and relatable. It could have something to do with the fact that harper and Abbott are conservatives, though....

I very much like him. I think he seems like a geunine person who really worked to get the success he made for himself. I do feel he is stymied a lot by his Congress but overall I am a fan.

Meh. I think he's a bit spineless and way to centrist for my taste. He has done some good things and I really respect and appreciate what he represents for a country. As a president I just do not find him to be a powerful enough leader. I would really love to see Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren in office. Now they have some balls!

Meh.
@Adira: I'm curuous too, which Clinton? I'm a huge fan of Bill Clinton!

I like him but some days I love him. I think he's done well based on the cards given to him. As a democrat, those republicans have made it nearly impossible to get anything done.

@twodoghouse: He was in my hometown once and my sister got to see him speak. I was so jealous!

@MrsMccarthy: YES to Senator Warren! Love her
I think Obama doesn't get enough credit. While he hasn't been the greatest president in history, he has accomplished a good bit and the Republicans can't really complain when they put forward sub-par candidates. I was actually surprised to see a majority positive response on the poll because it seems that most feedback I hear about him is negative or downright hatred, but those are probably just the loudest voices in the room

I'm no political follower but I like Obama just for ObamaCare. It's because of him and this program that I qualified for Medicaid after I got laid off, while 4m pregnant. Without that we could easily be bankrupt after doctor visits and labor and delivery. When I got laid off the first time I qualified for zilch and just went without health insurance until I found a job. COBRA is a joke and was more than my mortgage.

Not a fan of his politics, but as a general rule I distrust all politicians

@regberadaisy: That's awesome that the program has benefitted you and your family so much. I got a free breast pump through it so I can't complain

I would be interested in seeing another poll in what the political affiliation is with those that love/like and those that dislike/hate.
nectarine / 2932 posts
@Truth Bombs: Agreed with everything you just said!
I think he's done the best he could. I don't think any president we've had recently is a bad president...I'm sure they're all the doing the best they can under the circumstances. I don't usually align with him on political issues (gay marriage and abortion aside) but I doubt I could ever find a politician I 100% agreed with. ETA: I voted 'Meh'. I don't love, and I don't hate!

As a Canadian, I love him.
Could we please trade leaders? We will GLADLY hand over Stephen Harper for Obama anyday.

Hahahah again I wonder why I click on these threads.. I'm so not the typical HBer..

I think he's been a good President despite so much opposition. The ACA has greatly benefited my family, because now my diabetic husband cannot be denied insurance or have to wait a year to have his medication covered in the event of a job/insurance change.

@stiletto_mom: +100000000. Harper is the absolute worst. As a Canadian, I am in love with him. We'd take him up here any day!

@BandDmommy: hahah, same. I love it though, I like reading what other people think and seeing other perspectives.
