We have triple paste, which works great to clear up diaper rash. However, I'm hesitant to use it every day--it says it's a "medicated" diaper rash cream so I don't like the thought of putting it on LO daily. Do you have a good, natural preventative diaper rash cream? Or am I being silly, and is triple paste fine to use daily?

We used triple paste daily. A thin layer for prevention reasons, a thick layer when we were actually treating diaper rash.

I use CJ's butter. It isn't medicated and is a good barrier cream that is cloth safe. We use disposable diapers and Triple Paste when LO has a rash.

For prevention, we just use Coconut Oil. It works great and is super cheap! The best place is from WalMart.

My ped recommended bag balm as a barrier protection. It comes in a green can. So far so good. Desitin finally cleared up his diaper rash and I've been using the bag balm for a couple of days. We'll see if it keeps it at bay.

We use aquaphor healing ointment. We only use it when he has a rash, which is very rarely. Every time it's worked overnight, I love it.
@Thehistoryofus: side note: where to you find coconut oil in walmart? DH has the dryest hands and I've wanted him to try coconut oil on them, but couldn't find it.

Is there a reason you have to use something daily? We don't use anything daily (per hospital staff and our ped's recommendations) and LO has never had a diaper rash.

@kiddosc: I think it was with the other food oils like olive oil, canola oil, etc. It came in like a mason jar for like $7.

We use aquaphor, but not with every diaper change. LO is five months old and has never had close to a diaper rash.

@mrsaudi: Yup, we use A&D too. We've actually never had a diaper rash! I use it on my son still (he's 2.5 yrs old) and on my 4 month old daughter. I put on a thin layer at every diaper change. Works great!

I don't use anything to prevent during the day since he is changed every time he poops and/or every 2 hours. I put aquaphor on at night though because he sometimes goes 10 hours w/o a diaper change.

3rd vote for Coconut Oil! I started using it last month to treat a diaper rash... It did wonders!!! So we use it at every diaper change. We use the Nutiva brand you can get at Whole Foods. Trader Joes sells it too for about $7! We also use it for cooking, cleaning, as a hair treatment and for dry skin. I'm obsessed with Coconut Oil

@hilsy85 we use aquaphor at night, and desitin or balmex as soon as she starts to look red.

I use rotate between vaseline, Lansinoh Lanolin, Earth Mama Angel baby and desitin for night time. I also have triple paste but I cant tell if that makes it better or worse

@Mrsbells: It absorbs into the skin really well and seems to work great for prevention. We started with the Earth Moma Angel baby but it was SOOO expensive.

@Mrsbells: It does absorb well, and I like that it's not super thick. It's easier to really clean and start anew with every diaper change. And it's great with our cloth diapers! We do use disposables at night, and need something more heavy duty then...usually Aquaphor or Desitin. LO doesn't get changed overnight and is prone to contact rashes from disposables.

We alternate between Aveeno and buttpaste, but I think I'm going to try the coconutoil out! We already use it on some of her dry skin patches and her hair--never would have thought of using it on her heiny, too!

My LO had his first rash last week and I put A&D ointment on him. After about a day, the rash was gone. I've also been using it underneath his knees since his skin is so dry and chafing.

We don't use anything daily. She's 4 months old and has only had a slightly red tush once when she was a newborn and I used butt paste one time and it was gone. The NICU just told my SIL to use a and d ointment on her new little guy. That's what they (NICU) uses.

I think I might try aquaphor since we have it at home already. He doesn't currently have a rash or anything, but I'd like to have some sort of barrier on his skin against his pee/poop.

I use A+D for rash prevention but don't do it every change, only every other or every third.

it depends on the child. charlie and olive never had diaper rash and i don't use anything. if olive's butt looks a little red, i use aquaphor and it clears it right up.

@hilsy85: aquaphor does provide a great barrier for baby's behind, but since you asked for a "good, natural" alternative, I'd go for coconut oil or at least EMAB bottom balm.

@Mrsbells: yes, when it melts upon application, it is liquid-y but it still adheres to the skin well. It's very similar to Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm, which is also solid in the jar, then melts when you put it on, if I recall correctly.
I was floored last month when coconut oil TREATED my LO's diaper rash really well. (She woke up with a poopy diaper one morning and I almost cried when I saw how red her bottom was... After some googling and learning that some of the creams can be irritating when the skin is very red like hers was, I went out and got the coconut oil... It cleared it up SO fast.) So we use it preventively now too, and it's been really great.

Nothing for prevention, we just make sure to change DS often and clean him up thoroughly each time. So far no rash.
Also try to avoid scented or perfumed products.

I use CJ's Butter- it comes in amazing scents and its very moisturizing. I'm actually surprised so many people use A&D- I can't handle how mediciney it smells! I prefer my baby to smell like Blueberry Crumble

Honest Co's Healing Balm is my HG diaper rash treatment! I used to use Aquaphor on a regular preventative basis and Triple Paste whenever LO's skin got irritated. I tried the Honest healing balm on a whim one day and was super surprised! I feel like its the only balm I've tried that actually makes LO's skin healthier (we use it on her eczema and drool rash too). We've had no redness or irritation since, and she's in daycare where I know she sits in wet diapers for longer than at home
