No idea what category this fits best in, but what do you use in restaurants, supermarkets, etc., to disinfect the shopping cart, restaurant high chair, table? Would love for it to something natural, but effective against germs. And something that comes in small resealable pouches.
ETA: We have Cleanwell wipes for hands.

I just use the wipes that the grocery store puts put or baby wipes at a restaurant.

@Thehistoryofus: For baby wipes, do you mean what you'd use for a diaper change? Do they kill bacteria, etc.?

We use wet ones brand hand and face wipes. They aren't the natural kind but I think they are probably most effective at germ eradication!

@pregnantbee: at restaurants we just use regular baby wipes. No they aren't disinfecting but I don't really want to use a bleach based wipe around her food. I just assume they kinda wipe off a good amount of the germs and we hope for the best I guess.

I just use a boogie wipe. I like that it's saline solution essentially so it won't hurt if she gets some in her mouth. I'm not sure how great they are at germ killing though......

Alcohol, but much less than a standard hand sanitizer would contain. They are pretty mild.

This might sound crazy but I carry around a spray bottle of vinegar/water solution and use that to wipe down yucky surfaces. I just spray and wipe with a napkin. I'll spray it onto the napkin first and then wipe the surface. I mainly only do this at food courts and playrooms (where there's tons of germy kids). Otherwise I just wipe with water/napkin.

@banana: I have this funny imagery of you whipping out a huge spray bottle out of your diaper bag, haha. I'm thinking you have some kind of travel spray bottle though... But that is an awesome idea and a lot cheaper than wipes!

I use Wet Ones wipes. They're not natural, per se, but they give me peace of mind. I have both the larger packs and the individually wrapped ones.

nothing, really, but if, say, Sophie drops on the floor I'll use a baby wipe (sometimes) before giving it back to him.

@T-Mom: It's a traveled sized spray bottle but I would have no problems bustin' out a full sized bottle if I had to! 
@sunny: I do around a 1:5 vinegar to water ratio i just eyeball it.

I had to wipe down a restaurant high chair the other day (it was so gross, even I didn't want to touch it!) I used baby wipes. Otherwise, I don't really worry about it. I clean things in public if they're gross, otherwise, we just go with it.

If the smell of vinegar is too strong, tea tree oil and peppermint oil are also natural disinfectants.

we use a cover and it works for both carts and high chairs. Those carts and high are usually really dirty even if they don't look visibly dirty. I worked in supermarket and those carts get abused, people spill eggs, meat and dairy on them, teenagers step on them in the parking lot etc so somtimes even wiping it down isnt enough.

I used to use a cover when he was small, but then I got lazy, plus it's bulky to carry around. Now I usually use the wipes at the store or the Wet Ones I carry in my diaper bag. I honestly wouldn't worry about it, but he sometimes stills sucks on the handle even at 19 months. Ick.

I use the wipe at the store (like target has purell) or my own babyganics wipes. LO isn't in the cart yet though. When we make that jump ill buy a cover!

Thanks for the continued replies, everyone! Really helps me assess options. I definitely don't want to keep my son in an antibacterial bubble, but carts and high chairs are gross. Am inclined to at least wipe those. Won't be following him around and wiping down the playground.

@pregnantbee: this is a great thread, thanks for starting it! I like to hear everyone's ideas too. I totally agree with not putting the kids in a bubble. But we have been extra careful lately due to the severe flu season (and 2 pneumonias already this winter!).

@T-Mom: Thanks and you're welcome. My 7-mo-old has been sick with something since mid-December. One thing after the next, so I'd really like to prevent more if at all possible. I thank daycare for most of what's going on. Sigh.

I once wiped down the wooden play toy thing at the Dr.'s office with a baby wipe and it was filthy! I usually just use baby wipes to wipe things and to wipe baby's hands. But I really like @banana's method of a spray bottle with vinegar & water ! I just bought a bigger diaper bag, so i can probably add it to all the other stuff I lug around.
