I always thought I would be buried, but my parents surprised me by telling me they wanted to be cremated. Mr. Bee feels the same way. None of our families are religious.
I guess I don't have super strong feelings about it. I thought that I would visit my parents' grave and my children would visit mine, but if they're not going to be buried, does it make sense for me to?
I plan on donating all my organs if they're still able to be used!
What are you planning on doing?

I always figured cremation, but my DH really wants us to have a shared grave plot so I'll do that to make him happy. I don't really care otherwise!

Into the ground. Very typical Jewish traditions. Hub wants to be in a mausoleum (sp?) so I told him see ya!

I'm dead. So put me to as good a use as possible. Anything anyone can use, take it. Whatever else just put me in the ground somewhere. Preferably without a lot of hoopla and it would be awesome if you could just stick me in a shipping crate or something.

My husband wants to be cremated and then had his ashes spread somewhere. He doesn't like the idea of having a grave or sitting on a shelf somewhere, he wants to be as physically "gone" as possible.
I really don't care and I really don't want to know whats going to happen to me. Whatever feels right to my family is fine with me, I won't be there anyways.

Donation of organs and then cremation. DH and I both want the same thing. I have no idea what I want them to do with my ashes though. Definitely not an urn.

Whatever my family wants is fine with me; it's only my body. I am an organ donor so I certainly hope many parts of me can give life and prolong life for many people! Other than that; cremation.
My husband will be cremated and has requested that I sprinkle some of his ashes in his favorite places; which is another idea I really like.

I would like to be cremated. My spirit is gone so I don't feel like my body needs to be preserved. I'll probably have a plot of some sort of marker for my family to visit if they wish.

@Mae: My BIL wants to do the same with his ashes too. In fact, I think he's already picked out a few places very special to him that he wants his kids to spread the ashes at - and they have to go together.

@MrsSCB: Hell to the yes. Exactly what I want. In my mind, when I die I am nutrients for something else. I don't really feel the need to sugarcoat that. Of course, I also want to respect the people who are still alive; so if the girls aren't cool with me being worm food/tree food or eaten by a coyote or something, then, be a little more traditional. But I don't really want chemicals in my body because it would go into the ground, and I don't really want a fancy coffin because it just seems such a waste. I just want to go on to nurture something that is alive in whatever ways possible; via organ donation, or natural decomposition.

I think I want my organs to be donated if they are useful and then I want to be cremated with my ashes spread somewhere. I don't really want to burden my family with visiting me at a grave and I don't want them to feel guilty for not doing it!

I will donate everything that I can, and then they can cremate whatever is left. The thought of being put in the ground completely freaks me out, and I don't want my ashes kept in any sort of container, either... I find that creepy. I haven't figured out where I would want my ashes spread, but probably in the water somewhere.

It weirds me out to be on display or scattered, so burial is definitely for me - but an expensive casket? No way.

Cremate me and then put me in the oceans off Maui! DH wants the same. Honestly, I feel no need to create a "place" where people can visit me; I've never felt close to someone when I'm standing at their grave, but rather when I'm doing something or thinking of something that reminds me of them. I figure everyone can visit me in Hawaii, if they're so inclined, and at least get a suntan while they're at it.

I don't particularly care. Use whatever's useful and dispose of the rest as environmentally/economically as possible. I'd be totally open to being a med school cadaver, medical research, buried/burned/waterlogged somewhere for forensic research, crash test dummy, Body Worlds exhibit... I'm really not sensitive about it at all.

Organs donated, body cremated. I don't care where my family spreads my ashes, I just hope they pick somewhere beautiful so they can "visit" if they feel the need.

My dad was cremated but he still has a grave plot since he was a war vet. His wish was to be cremated and then buried with my mom when she passes.
I've never really thought about it. I would like my organs to be donated if possible. Or maybe be donated for medical research or something.

I want them to ransack my corpse for anything usable to donate, cremate me, then I wanna be.... A firework! @Mrs. Twine: @mrs. bird: I hate thinking about all the resources being taken up by coffins and cemeteries...unless you have a strong religious belief to be buried, I just don't understand why you would want to be put in a box and put into the ground

I'd like to donate my body to science, with any remains being cremated. My family can do whatever they like with the ashes.

I just overheard a girl at the DMV today say she no longer wants to be an organ donor. I wanted to turn around and ask get why. Use my organs and cremate the rest. A natural burial is ideal, but sounds like it's not easy to pull off in certain places.
