I'm going to a friend's mom's funeral today so it's been on my mind. As I got dressed in black this morning I thought that I would love it if everybody wore pink to my funeral. Boys included! Or all colors of the rainbow. I'm not a fan of black. I want to be burried, not cremated, and in the ground. My grandpa is in one of those things that is in the wall, and that creeps me out. Jews leave rocks in the grave instead of flowers, and I'd like people to paint the rocks so they're pretty first.

I don't really want a funeral... I would like to be cremated and then maybe a small family dinner or something.

I haven't thought about it too much, but I just wanted to say that my DH's grandmother passed away last year, 2 weeks before our wedding. She had melanoma which they treated, but a year later suddenly it had spread. Within a month, she passed away--It was a very fast process. When hospice was there, she told everyone that no one was allowed to wear black to her funeral! So the entire family wore bright spring colors instead of black to honor her amazing life and sweet personality. I thought it was lovely.

I don't want people to be sad. I would much rather people celebrate the time that I was here and not worry about me being gone because I will be in heaven

I don't want a wake or a funeral. Cremate me, scatter my ashes and maybe have a small "memorial" lunch/dinner or something with some awesome food.
This was what we did for DH's dad last year and this is what both of us want. My parents also want to be cremated.

I want the party part of the wake. A huge party. Drinking, stories, and lots of love.

@mrbee: @zippylef: That sounds nice! For me there's something about the actual service that gives me closure when a loved one passes away.
@lilteacherbee: I agree, I hate black!
@cyndistar3: That's what the funeral I went to today was all about. Or at least when the pastor spoke.... her family was obviously sad about it still.

I want my funeral to be a reminder of what life is really about and a celebration of the times spent with my loved ones. I want my funeral to be about hope and peace in knowing that I'm in Heaven and we'll be together again someday. I want there to be great music, tears (happy and sad) because I feel like funerals are one of the few places people allow themselves to cry which I feel is often an important part of grieving, I want the weather to be nice and sunny even though I know there's no way to control that. Afterwards, I want my family to have an awesome potluck meal and laugh and make new memories and take pictures and relish the time spent with family. Some of my fondest memories with my extended families are from funerals because we all come together and remember what's truly important.
ETA: Under no circumstances should there be ANY pictures taken of my dead body. I have a great uncle who always tries to take pictures during the actual funeral ceremony and take pictures of the body to "remember that person by". Umm sorry, but no. Remember me by pictures from when I was alive and smiling please.

I definitely do not want a funeral. They are way too depressing. People will remember me if they want to.

@eeh: I agree that pictures of dead bodies are so weird! People do odd things to grieve though.
I would prefer to not have an open casket or even have my body there at all. I just think once someone has passed, they aren't their body, and it's just weird to gather around like that. If my close family and friends want to have a simple graveside service when I am buried for closure, that's fine, but I'd rather my memorial service not take place at a funeral home and not have my dead body sitting there in the middle of the room, with everyone saying, "She looks so peaceful." Shudder.

I don't want anyone to wear black. I don't want anyone to be sad. I want my loved ones to celebrate my life, not mourn my death. I want them to tell stories, toast my memory, and remember the good times.

haven't really thought about it but i definitely don't want to be cremated. i'm still not 100% sure what happens to the body upon resurrection, so i'd like to keep it intact lol.
i don't want a big funeral, where everyone comes because of my parents. small with close family and friends is good enough. i don't need black either. i know they'll be sad. just a simple ceremony and burial. don't need a wake - i find wakes a bit creepy - open casket, that is.

I want my funeral to be whatever is easiest and most helpful for those that are left. It doesn't matter to me what happens,since I won't be there. I would like to leave some instructions so that my kids don't spend a too much money on a coffin though. I think it's outrageous that you spend $1000s or $10000 for a box that is going in the ground. Maybe I'll leave instructions to rent a coffin for my funeral and then be buried in a bio-bag.

@eeh: weird. Jews don't do open caskets so luckily I won't have to worry about that.
@Grace: Jews always have to have a very simple casket. I like that, also think it's silly to spend so much money on one.
