Is it clapping hands? A high-five?
Is it clapping hands? A high-five?

I thought it was like a high five. But then I heard someone refer to it as the "praise" emoji, like praise Jesus. That's not really my thing so I hesitate to use it, lol.

I have always taken it to mean "WOOT!" Totally a positive (and non-religious) interpretation. Eta: I am not religious.

@ShootingStar: I thought it was a high-five toobut then my husband said that he thought it was some sort of praise the Lord hands. We also are not religious...

@pwnstar: like a raise the roof kind of thing? I just can't figure out what the motion of the hands is supposed to be, haha

Oh dear. I'm glad you asked this question. I always thought it was high five, as well. But if that is praise, what are the praying hands ?

Wouldn't a high five just be one hand? I've always seen and used it as a "praise" - but that doesn't have to be religious necessarily (although I see it all the time on religious posts).
Like when people say "preach it" or you see something really amazing and you are in awe or whatnot. That's how I use it - like in "wow!! go you! That's amazing" type situations

@yoursilverlining: yeah this just came up...but I can't get the one the op posted to come up no matter what I type!

@yoursilverlining: I know that's what is confusing. People use it in woohoo situations. Oh! It just auto populated as woo hoo. But I still can't figure out what the hands are doing!

I use it as praise, hallelujah, etc.
Example: baby is napping!

@travellingbee: ahhh - okay it makes sense then as a high five or excited emoji.

Here's what I always think of / see in my head when I see that emoji. Not sure if this is helpful lol

@pwnstar: yes, definitely those too! Especially Michelle! Raise the roof!

@pwnstar: @yoursilverlining: bahahah exactly what I think as well

In my head I hear Phaedra from RHOA saying, "Thank you, Jesus!" haha!!

If you highlight any emoji and then push the arrow on the right side and then select "speak," it will say the emoji aloud. When you select it says "hands raised in celebration." If you select
, it says "smiling pile of poo." Haha

@mediagirl: Praise and prayer are two different things!
Baby is finally sleeping--> Praise the Lord!
Please let this baby go to sleep--> Prayer hands!
pomegranate / 3904 posts
I think it would be used in a situation like "DS slept through the night, praise the Lord!" Even of you're not religious

@rattles: hahaha I love your interpretation.
To me they look like they're waving. Like "stop" or "whoa whoa wait a minute hold on" kind of motion.

@LAZB: Exactly. I AM religious, but am not using it in the religious praise the lord. Just as the expression.

@littlebug: according to this website http://emojipedia.org/people/ it's a "face massage".
