for the summer it was short sleeved onesies and cotton shorts or non footed sleepers/sleep n plays. It's daycare - clothes are going to get shit on and spitted up on. Do not send him in the "good" stuff.

All the kids at daycare have their own cubby. Back up clothes go in there and that has clothes that are hand me downs that I don't like. LOL

Our LO started daycare in October so it was colder. Always put them in comfy stuff and ones you don't mind shit getting on--literally. We also always did layers. If he was just starting now I would put him in thin pants, socks, short sleeve onesie with a long sleeve shirt over that (non onesie). Because for us it is guaranteed he will get changed half way through the day and we pack warmer cloths.. Including another pair of thin pants, shorts, and two onesies. If it gets too hot they can take off the long sleeve. If it's chilly in the morning I'll put on a thin zip up jacket. My LO runs really hot and our daycare stays cooler so it can be tricky. I at first packed everything and would see what he was coming home in.

@regberadaisy: Ha. My backup bin is all clothes that my MIL buys for them that I don't like.

A is 4 months old and I'm sending her in one-piece shorty rompers or onesies and shorts. Comfortable stuff that I don't mind getting dirty. I was sending her in socks but they were always off when I picked her up, so I stopped.

In the summer I sent him in mostly one piece rompers, like this - http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1060244&vid=1&pid=124383002. It was great having him look put together without having to match a shirt and pants. I did not send socks, he was usually barefoot.

In colder weather I'd send him in pants and a long sleeve onesie. I didn't send sweaters or sweatshirts too often, as I was afraid the hoods would bother him (everything seems to have a hood) or that he'd get hot and they wouldn't notice. I would put him in socks in cold weather, but it was frustrating at daycare because they were constantly losing them. I started labeling them at one point because they were going missing almost every day. I guess he would pull them off and they'd end up on the floor and the teachers would have no idea where they went or if they found them, who they belonged to. With this next baby I think instead I'll put her in socks and robeez (or similar) to try and keep them on.

Both kids wore sleepers or rompers (like what @ShootingStar: linked) until they were walking. No socks or shoes until walking. And we didn't layer - just a jacket over their clothes in the winter (and a blanket in the car) and then it all comes off at daycare. I have boys though and they both ran warm, so I didn't need to layer or anything.

My son was never a fashion plate, but when he was small, I really liked one piece things for him. I had him in sleep and plays from Carters until he outgrew them, basically.

Onesie underneath, instead of a blanket or a layer on top. Socks, but no shoes (I was lazy and cheap).

Like others have said LO had a dedicated cubby space for spare/extra clothes and I sent clothes I didn’t like to daycare as extras.

I also left a light sweater there in case they went outside and needed it. Our daycare keeps the rooms quite warm and one entire wall is windows in each room so the rooms also stay warm from the sun – so there is no need to dress in layers, sweaters, etc. when they will be inside all day. You might want to check with your daycare to see how warm the rooms usually are.

LO started daycare at 13 weeks and when she was little we just sent her most everyday in a short-sleeve onesie and cotton pants. Usually just socks; shoes were too much work for zero purpose or functional need.

I had some concern about this when I sent LO to daycare at 7 months but my perspective now is that you REALLY can send him in literally whatever you want. They are not going to be teasing him for his lack of style. I think we kept DD in footed onesies for a couple months simply because we had a ton of them. Now, I tend to grab outfits that I don't like as much so I can save the ones I prefer for the weekend when I'll be with her all day. Oh yeah and of course the clothes I really don't like will go into her drawer for extra outfits. We didn't start any kind of shoes or shoe-like object until she was pulling up to stand and it was also warm enough to go outside.

[ETA] In our daycare, the infant room is REALLY warm so we never had to do layers or a jacket. Now we keep a poofy coat in her drawer and let the teachers decide when to put it on her if they're going to go outside. No need to overthink it on our part.

I send a lot of hand me downs to school for his bin - and a ton of them. LO2 had lots of blowouts, spitups, and drool, so a ton of bibs and a ton of daycare outfits were a must. I did mix and match pants, shorts, long and short sleeve onesies and socks so that they could change him into whatever he needed. We also keep a sweatshirt there full time for him to wear outside for buggy rides and if it gets chilly. The infant room is generally warm though.

Emma started daycare in February and we often sent her in what she wore to the bed the night before if it was still clean! Normally a one piece snap up long sleeved/pant outfit with feet. Or shirt + onesie + socks. Just comfy stuff. No need to be fancy for daycare.

As long as the clothes are warm and comfy, don't worry about it. We sent shoes once LO was transitions to the one year old classroom and was ready to go outside. We sent socks before that but they fell off a lot. Most daycare a keep the infant room pretty warm.

C is 5 months and started care at 3 months. I sent her in cute stuff because I can! She'll be mobile and messy (and independent if she's like her brother!) soon enough, this is my only shot!

I was doing a cardigan in the mornings for a while, but it's warm now and she doesn't need it. I do layer a bit with a bib because she's very drooly and it saves her from needing an extra change. Her back-ups are onesies and pants because I feel like those are the easiest & can be changed independently of each other.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Those were great for my guy in summer months and easy to put on because no need for matching!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Haha, tell me about it. I have a ton of stuff like that coat that my son never wore...at least get it in a bigger size!
