I am contemplating getting rid of our crappy food storage containers and getting better ones. I am starting to freeze more food, but I am not sure how long this will continue. I saw snapware on a deal at woot, and like that they are made in the USA. Two questions:
1. I am feeling a little guilty buying new ones when our hodgepodge of gladware and coolwhip containers are ok.
2. If I do buy new ones, which ones do you recommend?

We have the glass ones with the snap on plastic lids. I prefer the glass because it doesn't hold onto food odors like the plastic ones sometimes can. I also feel better microwaving left overs in the glass vs. plastic. I found mine at Costco and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

I use Glass Lock containers that I purchased from Costco. I got rid of all our plastic containers due to concerns w/plastic and switched over to glass a couple years ago. I think it was about $30 at Costco for a new set.

I also got snapware at Costco (I feel so trendy now! Haha) I felt wasteful donating perfectly good plastic Tupperware, but felt strongly that I didn't want to store or heat food in it, so I got over it. I also have some Pyrex with blue lids (maybe from bbb or target)

Do the glass containers at Costco work well in the freezer? Honestly, I often freeze extra foods like stews and soups in Ziploc freezer bags because I like the fact that I can lay them thin and flat. That way they fit better in our ridiculously tiny freezer and also defrost faster. But I am also trying to switch to glass for most food storage.

For storage and then microwaving, I use Pyrex (I think) with silicone-rimmed glass lids. It was hard to find anything with lids made of anything other than plastic!

We have a mix of the pyrex glass ones with plastic lids and some rubbermaid bpa free plastic ones. I like the rubbermaids because they are square so they are good for sandwiches and other things that don't work as well in circles, so I would think about what you put in them and then figure out what shapes you need.

@spaniellove: Where did you find yours? We have a lot of pyrex (which I do really like), but the lids... drives me bananas. Why, yes, Pyrex, please use plastic lids for your glass containers, because obviously when people are trying to use less plastic, what they really want in a lid is, well, plastic.
I'd love to replace the lids, if that's even possible.

We also have the Glasslock ones from Costco! Love them and I don't feel guilty microwaving food in them.
We used to store in plastic containers and them dump everything out onto a plate to microwave.

I just ordered some Wean Green containers off Amazon for my son for daycare, they're the same idea but I like the different colour lids

We use mason jars for a lot of stuff (no plastic).

@Mrs. Twine: I got them on Amazon and then found that the lids fit some Anchor Hocking containers I'd already bought from Bed Bath and Beyond, which was great because I could use the more expensive lid for microwaving and the cheaper lids for storage.

Snap ware from Costco! I just always take the lids off before microwaving them.

Do you find much difference between the Pyrex and the Anchor Hocking? I've been keeping my eyes open at the thrift stores and seem to see lots of the Anchor Hocking (but usually lidless, so I haven't gotten any since I wasn't sure I could find just lids).

We use Rubbermaid Easy Find and Pyrex. Glass is too heavy for me to drag back and forth on a regular basis. No BPA, so no concerns for me.

We use mostly glass too from pyrex.

We use a lot of Gladware for lunches... it's too heavy to carry glass and I know it's really wasteful, but I like the Gladware better than normal tupperware because I don't feel bad tossing it after a few months.
For storage and home use, I like glass. And I actually prefer the plastic/rubber lids - so much easier to get an air tight seal. I have a lot of Pyrex that I use for freezing, and a bunch of Libby bowls with plastic lids that I use for normal refrigerator storage/leftovers. I got them on Amazon for a great deal.

We use Rubbermaid LunchBlox for both my and LO's lunches. They are awesome. If I bring something that needs to be heated up, I use glass/Pyrex from Bed Bath & Beyond. Mason jars work amazingly well for storing stuff in the fridge.

@Mrs. Twine: I actually can't tell which one I'm using! Of course I don't do much with it besides store things in the fridge and heat up leftovers. But both have held up for 2-3 minutes and say the same exact thing on the bottom - microwave safe, no broiler no stovetop. I can't find the AH container on the BBB site anymore but it's the 4 cup round glass container that fits perfectly.
ETA: The glass container/glass lid has been perfect for heating up freezer meals. I just thaw a little bit, then pour into the glass container and heat!

@Mrs. Twine: I have had terrible luck with the Anchor Hocking lids. Almost all of them have ripped along the edges. They still work but the seal definitely isn't as great as it should be. Haven't had that happen with any of my Pyrex.
I'd love to replace the lids, if that's even possible.
