Our friend's little boy is turning 1 soon and I'm stuck on what to gift him. As parents, were there any gifts at your 1 year old's birthday that were really cool/useful/memorable? The birthday boy is almost walking, but not quite so I was thinking maybe one of those walker/pusher type things? We'd like to keep the price under $75. Anyone have any suggestions?

I've heard that a wooden name stool (the letters come out like a puzzle) is a great gift, if you have the time, since it's a custom order. Etsy sells lots of them. My Mom always gets one year olds this. And for the next few years they can never have too many stools.

Does he have a learning table? FisherPrice makes a great one, my son still uses it as his DJ turntable at 19 months.
Another option is Melissa and Doug Wooden anything...puzzles, fruit and vegetable cutting sets, etc. At that age they're also into pressing buttons, so anything with buttons is great.

Our LO just had her 1st birthday and while we loved every toy she received, they can become quite cumbersome. My brother gave us a gift card for Babies R US, that I really appreciated but some people might think it's too impersonal.

My lo just turned one. She got soooooo many toys. It was great and of course she loves them, but we have a tiny house and its a little bit much. She also got a lot of clothes. But I think my favorites were themed baskets, like beach basket full of swim suit, swim diapers, sun glasses, towel, beach toys, etc.

We got this for my daughter for her first birthday and she loves it! It is so soft and comfy, she kisses on it every day. My friend was there when she opened it and her son who is two weeks younger than my daughter fell in love with it too so she got him the monkey one for his first birthday as well. I think it is perfect for them to grow into and to have a reading chair.

I got my little cousin a beach/playground themed basket with sand toys, sunglasses, bubbles, swim suit, etc and I put it all in a beach bucket and used letter stickers to spell her name on the side. She still uses the bucket 2 years later!

This is probably boring, but we always give the little kids in DH's family money for college. At age 1, we figure they have tons of toys and won't remember anyway, so we feel like our money is better spent on something more useful to them.
I can't even remember what I got my niece and nephew for their 1st birthdays- they are WAY more fun to buy for now that they are older. I think I might have gotten one of those cars that you can sit in while the parents push? -

I always buy books as well. I still have books that I was given as a little girl. Whoever gave them to me would write their name or a note. I love having those now!

Books are my go too, I stay away from toys if I can since I know thet crowd the house.
