Any ideas on a birthday gift for a 2 year old boy? He has no shortage of trucks, cars, puzzles, play kitchen/accessories, etc. He's a sweet, sensitive kid who seems to like doing arts & crafts as well as running around.

I'd probably do soccer ball and a few small cones, if they have access to a yard or park.

@Smurfette: @looch: I THINK he may have a soccer ball already...the cones/goal might be a good idea. They have a small backyard, and access to larger parks.

@hilsy85: anything outdoors is a big hit, maybe you can put together a "park bag" with stuff to do at the park, like bubbles, sidewalk chalk, those velcro ball/paddle things, etc etc. I know that would go over HUGE with my son!

@looch: I was thinking of something like that actually; a bag with a bunch of little things in it. But not sure how the mom would react to that--they're very wealthy and I feel like gift giving is always awkward in those situations!

@hilsy85: oh, hmmm...what about a custom made bag, with his initials on it...from Etsy, if you have time?

I would choose a "pretend play" toy because at this age, their imagination starts going rampant. I would type in "pretend play" in the Amazon search box... lots of stuff should come up!

We just did a bathing suit/tank for our friends 2 year old. His mama always complains they have too many toys so I didn't want to add to it!
Does he play dress up?
ETA: his party was at a pool and we live in a beach town, so it seemed like a good gift.

We are going to a 2 year old birthday this weekend. He's getting Melissa and Doug coloring books and crayons, sidewalk chalk and a sticker book. I spent about $25.

@Sammyfab: up to $50, he's one of LO's closest friends and I like his mom a lot/consider her a good friend.
@looch: thats a cute idea, was just looking at etsy and came across these, not sure though: http://www.etsy.com/listing/190229789/finger-puppet-jungle-animal-set?ref=related-0
@Mrs. High Heels: @Mrs. Champagne: dress up is a good idea actually! I fon't think he has much of that yet.

Hmmm...
-easel + art supplies
-Magnadoodle
-playdoh set
-scooter
-Twig Creative wooden camera (I think they're the cutest and so fun for pretend play)
-a fun backpack (like Herschel Supply, Swankaroo, Fjallraven...)
Something unique and customizable would be my suggestion since you really like his mom.
