To give or receive? DS is about to turn 2 and others are asking what to get him. He doesn't really play with toys, loves books but has a ton already. Loves to be outside but not sure what to suggest. I've read ideas in other posts, but curious what some others say.

@matador84: I haven't gotten them for the kids yet (planning on getting them after our move), but EVERYONE raves about how great they are. They're definitely something your kids can play with for years too. My friend's 5 yo still loves to play with their set.

peg puzzles--LO just started liking these around 2 and we are only now graduating to jigsaw at 2y8mo. There are some good melissa and doug ones that you can get at target.
LO got a doctor kit that she really likes and a duplo set that were a hit for her birthday too.
My MIL got her a play kitchen so we also asked for play food.
we got some little things that were nice, like lacing beads and lacing cards. They are great to have in the diaper bag when you are waiting for something and need to distract them.

My new favorite thing is kinetic sand....but I am not sure I would give it to a two year old though.

@Mrs. Coral: I swear my son is so weird. He has the mega blocks and only occasionally plays with them...we got him the b parum drum set for his 1st birthday and only occasionally plays with it!!

My DS loves hats: fireman, construction, cowboy - all huge hits.
He also loves his little tikes work bench which was a bday gift.
